Success: New York Pledges $21 Million for Affordable Housing

Target: New York Governor Andrew Cuomo

Goal: Applaud new initiative to construct eight affordable housing projects.

New York state has announced a new initiative in which it will give more than $21 million to eight housing projects. These developments are designed to provide affordable housing to previously homeless and impoverished people.

In total, the eight projects will contain 265 residential units throughout the state. The projects will be split between highly-populated urban areas, such as New York City and Long Island, and more rural areas found in Erie and Oneida. Governor Andrew Cuomo also announced that projects in Suffolk and Oneida counties will focus specifically on providing housing to homeless veterans and their families. Residents living in these units will also be provided with health care, job training, and other services.

This new project represents an enormous victory in the fight to provide affordable housing for all. Past ForceChange petitions have already chronicled the urgent need for such developments, such as the ones found here and here. Sign the petition below to thank Governor Cuomo for his efforts to make affordable housing a realistic opportunity for every citizen.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Cuomo,

I am writing to thank you for the recent initiative to create eight new affordable housing projects. These projects, which will provide housing to hundreds of New Yorkers, will provide a safe living space and create new opportunities for citizens who previously had little or no opportunity to improve their standard of living.

I understand that this project will not be cheap, and the $21 million that the state has already pledged is proof of the expensive commitment that this project will require. Thank you for your commitment to improving the lives of each and every citizen of your state.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

I TRULY hope these housing units will allow dogs and/ or cats…..so many landlords in NYC have banned dogs, leading to thousands being sent to the NYC shelter system which is an assembly line of death.
