End Homelessness with Affordable Housing

Target: Barack Obama, President of the United States

Goal: Assist local communities in their efforts to end the affordable housing crisis by investing and creating affordable housing for the homeless.

The United States faces a housing crisis that threatens the stability of the nation. Rising homelessness has become so problematic that some communities have declared a state of emergency. State, local, and federal governments must be part of the solution by providing relief to the millions of Americans currently suffering from homelessness.

The crisis is not exclusive to any region or social class. More and more people across the country, whether they are rich, poor, or middle class, are unable to find a safe place to live. Rising rents and property costs have placed strain on residents in both large cities and tiny towns. Hundreds of thousands of people tonight will sleep in cars and under bridges, and millions more are just a crisis away from homelessness.

Across the country, there is a shortage of 7 million affordable homes. This crisis was not inevitable; it was human-made. Lending laws and relaxed government oversight led to the situation that the country now finds itself in. Fortunately, the solution is simple: build more homes. Seven million homes can be built with the support of all levels of government. By investing in affordable housing projects and issuing incentives for construction firms who build affordable homes, local and state governments have the power to help millions of Americans keep a roof over their heads.

Local communities, however, can’t solve this problem alone. The amount of money and resources required for this undertaking necessitates the intervention of the federal government. Sign the petition below and call on the federal government to take emergency action and assist local communities in their efforts to end homeless with affordable housing.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Obama,

The United States faces a housing crisis that threatens the stability of the nation. Rising homelessness has become so problematic that some communities have declared a state of emergency. Across the country, there is a shortage of 7 million affordable homes, and the time has come to put an end to this critical problem.

Fortunately, this crisis can be fixed. By investing in affordable housing projects and issuing incentives for construction firms that build affordable homes, local and state governments can help Americans find a place to live but they need help. The amount of money and resources required for this undertaking necessitates the intervention of the federal government. I urge you and the rest of our government to take emergency action and assist local communities in their efforts to end this state of emergency.

Sincerely,
