Stop Reported Beating, Stabbing, and Inhumane Transport of Horses

Target: Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

Goal: Hold ranch accountable for alleged stabbing and beating of horses bound for slaughter.

Disturbing footage recently obtained by Animal Justice highlights the extreme abuse horses allegedly endure at Flewelling Ranches Ltd., an Alberta-based feedlot, where shocking acts of violence have reportedly been committed against these sentient beings. Horses are apparently seen being struck and jabbed with rods, as handlers force them onto transport trucks for shipment to Japan where they face fattening for slaughter. The alleged actions indicate a blatant disregard for the welfare of these animals, subjecting them to unnecessary suffering that is unacceptable in any society that values compassion and humane treatment.

It is crucial for the Canadian government to address these allegations with the seriousness they deserve. The apparent maltreatment of horses during transport, combined with attempts to hide records of their transport violations, points to an urgent need for accountability and reform within the live horse export industry. Demanding appropriate punishment for those involved in the reported abuse is a necessary step toward ensuring the protection of these animals. Immediate enforcement of existing animal welfare laws and a commitment to banning live horse exports are essential to prevent further cases of cruelty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister MacDonald,

Recent footage obtained by Animal Justice sheds light on severe alleged abuses occurring at Flewelling Ranches Ltd. Disturbingly, the footage seemingly shows horses being hit and jabbed repeatedly, demonstrating a blatant cruelty that raises significant concerns about the treatment of animals within the live export industry. The current legal framework allowing the transport of horses for up to 28 hours without food, water, or rest is inhumane and contributes significantly to their physical and psychological distress.

It is time for Canada to take a stand and enforce animal welfare laws effectively. These alleged acts of violence cannot continue unnoticed, and strong measures must be implemented to deter such behavior. Therefore, I urge you to hold Flewelling Ranches Ltd. accountable for these reported abuses and push for the immediate reform or ban of live horse exports to protect these vulnerable animals from further suffering.

Sincerely,
