Emaciated Mastiff Found Tethered Without Water for 48 Hours: Find Who Abandoned Him

Target: María del Pilar Tomás Gómez, Chief Prosecutor, Valencia, Spain

Goal: Identify and prosecute whoever left a severely malnourished Mastiff tethered to an isolated post without water or shelter for more than 48 hours.

A cyclist discovered a Spanish Mastiff securely tied to a metal irrigation post in agricultural land. The dog had no access to drinking water or shelter despite intense summer heat. Veterinarians determined that he had likely been abandoned for more than 48 hours. By the time help arrived, the Mastiff was severely dehydrated, covered in open sores and suffering from critical muscle wasting. Emergency veterinary personnel administered intravenous fluids to stabilize him.

No suspect has been identified, so investigators face a difficult search. The Mastiff had no mandatory identification microchip, eliminating an obvious route to his legal owner. Municipal police are examining security cameras operated by nearby farming cooperatives. Witnesses are also being sought who may remember a vehicle near the irrigation hub during the relevant period.

Tying this dog to a fixed post made escape impossible. He could not search for water, reach shade or find help as his condition deteriorated. Authorities must identify the person responsible and, if the evidence establishes criminal wrongdoing, pursue appropriate prosecution and penalties.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Prosecutor Tomás Gómez,

The condition in which a Mastiff was discovered, tied to a post and abandoned in an agricultural area, demands a serious investigation. He was found tethered to an isolated irrigation post without water or shelter after apparently remaining there for more than 48 hours. Severe dehydration, open sores and critical muscle wasting required immediate veterinary treatment.

The absence of a microchip complicates the investigation, but it should not end it. Surveillance footage, witness testimony and records of vehicles traveling through the agricultural area could still reveal who was responsible for the dog.

Please ensure that every reasonable lead is pursued. If investigators identify a suspect and evidence establishes that this person allegedly abandoned the Mastiff under these dangerous conditions, pursue appropriate prosecution and penalties under applicable Spanish law. A dog left physically unable to escape scorching heat and dehydration deserves accountability.

Sincerely,
