Goal: Identify and prosecute whoever is responsible for burning five newborn puppies alive and severely injuring their mother as she tried to protect them.
The cries of newborn puppies irritated someone for only a few moments. The suffering that followed lasted much longer. Five newborn puppies were killed in an act that has shaken an entire community. Investigators believe a group of unidentified men, frustrated by the litter’s crying on a cold night, cornered the puppies, poured fuel over them, and set them on fire. The puppies died at the scene. Their mother tried to shield them from the flames and suffered severe burns in the attempt.
Veterinary professionals are currently treating the injured dog while investigators search for those responsible. Police have registered a First Information Report and are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area. No suspect has been identified, no arrests have been made, and no court has determined criminal liability.
The loss of these puppies is more than the death of five defenseless animals. If the evidence bears out what investigators believe happened, it describes a deliberate act of cruelty against newborn lives that had no way to escape or defend themselves. That cannot be allowed to disappear into anonymity. A thorough investigation and vigorous enforcement of India’s animal protection laws are essential to ensure whoever is responsible is identified and held accountable.
