Target: Lubna Jaffery, Norway Minister for Culture and Equality
Goal: Investigate issues that led to major lottery mix-up.
For lottery players, hitting the jackpot is a lofty but typically unattainable dream. Yet for thousands of players in Norway, that dream came true in a big way…then turned into a nightmare. The organization that handles the country’s Euro Jackpot lottery notified a multitude of people that they had won large sums of money. Within the day, however, the company was forced to admit it had made a mistake, effectively crushing the hopes of countless consumers.
The costly mistake apparently resulted from an error in calculation. But as the company has itself admitted, this is not the first “technical problem” the gambling service has endured in recent times. Loyal players, regulators, and even a state minister have leveled criticism at the service.
While the company’s CEO has resigned, more needs to be done to protect consumers and provide transparency. Sign the petition below to demand a thorough investigation into an organization that is profiting off people’s wishes and dreams.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Minister Jaffery,
Imagine waking up to discover you had won a life-changing sum. You make plans. You weigh possibilities. You dream. And then imagine finding out it was all an avoidable mistake. The joy and elation are displaced by crushing disappointment.
Norsk Tipping subjected thousands of Norwegians to this horrible feeling…Norwegians who gave their hard-earned money for a chance to dream. If it had been the first such issue, perhaps an apology would suffice. But the company’s self-acknowledged “number of technical problems” merits further investigation.
Advocate for answers and full accountability on behalf of consumers.
Sincerely,
