Better Lives of People Beset by Economic Strife and Political Distrust

Target: Luis Arce, President of Bolivia

Goal: Create plans of action for ending economic crises weighing down citizens.

A nation that has seen roughly 150 coups in its relatively short lifetime recently experienced its latest bout of political upheaval…or did it? Bolivia’s president had a dramatic confrontation in front of the presidential palace with his army chief. The showdown ended with the military man being led away in handcuffs, charged as the leader of a reported coup. But many doubters have presented theories that the whole encounter was an elaborate hoax intended to garner public support for a polarizing leader that came into power under his own set of coup-like circumstances.

The administration of President Luis Arce has faced criticism from the onset due to reported brutal crackdowns on protesters who spoke out against his rise to power. Arce’s controversial tenure has also been marked by more recent public protests targeting economic turmoil and critical supply shortages roiling the country. Unfortunately, these issues are largely falling by the wayside as leaders are busy debating about whether or not a coup happened.

The people, as is usually the case, are suffering as a result. Sign the petition below to demand these leaders redirect their energy toward easing burdens the people are shouldering.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Arce,

While fear and misdirection might yield results in the short-term, transparency and empathy will always mark an effective and trusted long-term leader. The people of Bolivia do not need a villain but an advocate. They need someone who will listen and address their concerns with the cost of living and the cost brought by crucial shortages. Bolivians are now ignoring the debates and accusations swirling about coups because they are focused on their everyday lives and survival.

Can you put aside political posturing and be the kind of leader who can resolve these concerns and mitigate the consequences that millions are living with every day? You once pledged to “rebuild” Bolivia. Please stop the infighting and bring together the individuals who can proactively give this nation the leadership it deserves.

Sincerely,
