Ensure Military Killings Meet Codes of Conduct

Extrajudicial killings by covert military operations are a reality in many nations. India recently made news when it confirmed it had carried out secret executions of suspected terrorists on Pakistani soil. A key ally of the United States has also courted controversy after an inquiry was opened into alleged killings perpetrated by Britain’s elite Special Air Service (SAS).

The SAS has reportedly undertaken operations in at least 19 countries over the past few years. But it is the force’s alleged actions in Afghanistan that have drawn criticism. The inquiry focuses on allegations that at least 80 Afghans were executed by three different units of the SAS. While reports had claimed that all the individuals killed had produced weapons, some information seemingly conflicts with this assertion. At least two individuals (a man and a woman) were allegedly shot and killed as they slept.

Families of the fallen want answers, but the British government will reportedly not even send officials to Afghanistan to investigate. Sign the petition below to demand a full investigation into disturbing and deadly allegations.

“It’s like refusing to visit a murder scene.” One critic had these strong words for the ministry’s apparent lack of active involvement into allegations that the SAS carried out excessive extrajudicial killings in Afghanistan. Conflicting reports have not helped clarify the circumstances that led to the deaths of dozens of Afghans, including some who were reportedly asleep when they were killed.

Unconscionable and unlawful killing should never be dismissed or ignored, especially by a nation that counts itself among the most civilized in the world. Please answer the calls of critics to expand the inquiry and investigation into SAS-involved killings in Afghanistan and beyond.
