Bring Peace to People Endangered by Civil War

Target: António Guterres, Secretary-General of United Nations

Goal: Help negotiate a lasting peace plan for war-torn Sudan and its people.

Power struggles between two military factions have driven Sudan—a country of over 46 million people—perilously close to civil war and plunged its vulnerable citizens into a humanitarian crisis. The conflict so far has claimed 500-plus lives and injured thousands more. While nations are busy desperately trying to evacuate their own citizens from the war-torn nation, its native inhabitants are left to an increasingly bleak fate.

Sudan’s people are already heavily dependent on international aid, yet with the dangerous atmosphere now—that has seen aid workers killed in the crossfire—key food relief agencies have suspended operations. And agencies bringing critical medical supplies are operating at a severely limited capacity as well, even as many of the injured remain trapped while overburdened hospitals become the target of attacks.

With international actors like Russia involving themselves in the conflict and neighboring countries possibly being pulled into the fighting, a pathway to peace is vital for stabilizing the region and averting an even more catastrophic humanitarian disaster. Sign the petition below to urge the United Nations (UN) to ramp up and solidify its plan for peace talks.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary-General Guterres,

A UN envoy has revealed the leaders at the center of the high-stakes Sudan conflict have expressed interest in negotiations. The fragile cease-fire already in place will likely not hold, making these potential talks even more crucial. The longer this conflict continues, the greater the chances of its expansion and its exploitation by outside forces.

Most importantly, a prolonged war will devastate tens of millions of lives in a region desperate for aid that cannot reach them. These human beings are watching as others are evacuated and taken to safety while they are left behind. Do not abandon them any longer.

Make a path to peace a top priority.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
