Stop Keeping Orca Whales in Captivity

Target: Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Administrator – National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

Goal: End the captivity of orca whales and allow them to live out their lives in sanctuaries.

Orcas kept in captivity are often forced to live their lives in small, barren tanks, which can cause physical and mental distress. In addition, the loud noise levels and confined spaces in these facilities can have negative impacts on their health and well-being.

To combat the captivity of orca whales, it is crucial to raise awareness about the harms of this practice and push for the adoption of more humane alternatives, such as sanctuaries, which provide more space, stimulation, and natural environments that better mimic their natural habitat. Sanctuaries also allow for the safe release and reintroduction of orcas back into the wild when possible.

Sign the below petition to urge Dr. Lubchenco to take action to end the captivity of orca whales and ensure their well-being and protection.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Dr. Lubchenco,

I am writing to urge you to take action to end the captivity of orca whales. The practice of keeping these magnificent animals in small, barren tanks is inhumane and can cause physical and mental distress. In addition, the loud noise levels and confined spaces in these facilities can have negative impacts on their health and well-being.

Sanctuaries provide a more humane alternative for orca whales, where they can live in more natural environments with more space and stimulation. These sanctuaries also provide opportunities for them to be reintroduced back into the wild when possible.

I urge you to end the captivity of orca whales and allow these animals to live out their lives in more humane and natural conditions. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

Sincerely,

  1. Orcas are not meant to entertain. They are whales and need the ocean. Orcas should not be poached by corporations and industry to make money by displaying them. We have no right to do this no matter what we use as an excuse. Man is the most horrible animal.

    • Totally agree, your comments could not have been said better. Keep our wild animals of all kinds free from the abuse of sick humanity!!!

  2. Mary Helen Barletti says:

It’s long past time to end these cruel displays of orcas, dolphins, seals and sea otters. When will humans stop imprisoning and torturing animals for entertainment? We need to seriously develop moral behavior as a species because we are WAY BEHIND animals.

  3. This has been going on for years but the entertainment industry always wins … but the Orcas lose. I am against selfish with animals, circuses using animals and birds, and I am absolutely against orcas going insane due to the human greed and need to be entertained. Today we have high tech, iPhones, computers, TV, and everything for such a purpose yet humans still participate in killing contest, hunting, trophy hunting and spiteful hunting against wolves, etc. Humans are the lowest form of animal in the species. We don’t kill for food, we kill to be entertained. How lame is that? In the past we didn’t know nor understand the harm being don. Now we do, so let’s stop and NOAA has an obligation to animals to stop, NOW! Release these whales to sanctuaries where they will enjoy some of their life. It’s not normal but a hell of a lot better than small, lonely, tanks.

It seems that people are just looking for more reasons to be cruel and evil towards innocent animal or marine life. They all sicken me. I want all animals to be able to live a free and safe life, being cared about and cared for when they need it. This earth will be so much better for animals when the humans are gone.

  5. Maria Lavorato says:

Another despicable practice to appease the greed of humans!

It is 2023, we all are aware what keeping these large orcas in captivity does to their life. This greedy exploitation needs to end immediately all around the world.

All those that hold captive, profit or attend these kinds of shows should all be confined to a tiny enclosure for life!

  6. Sheryl Bass says:

These animals need much more space than an aquarium provides. Please stop putting them in captivity.

  7. Shirley Lemieux says:

I agree strongly that we need to end the captivity of orca whales and let them live out their lives in better conditions.

  8. Nick Spinrod is the Administrator of NOAA.

  9. Gilda Provenzano says:

HOW LONG MUST THIS SHIT GO ON?!!!

    • Patricia Lamonica says:

ANIMAL ABUSE WILL NEVER STOP UNTIL THE ABUSERS ARE ALL DEAD AND THEY CAN ALL LOOK FORWARD TO BURNING IN HELL!!!!!!!

  10. It’s beyond sad that corporate scumbags keep any animal in captivity so they can make money. It’s animal slavery.

  11. Lexie Cataldo says:

As an administrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, shouldn’t your work be about protecting the ocean and its inhabitants? If not, maybe, the administration should be renamed to be the Aquarium Administration. The cruelty that is inflicted upon these innocent mammals show your character and morals. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

  12. As a species, we treat our worst criminals better than all our wildlife either on land, air or in the oceans. Humans are so ignorant and ‘feel superior’ to all other species that we no longer are attuned to nature. Orcas and sharks are attacking boats with humans, and I am in support of THIER RETALIATION on humans. The random abductions of their young, planned cullings, and multitude of abuses that humans have caused for centuries deserve some retaliation. Now speedboats and jetskis etc, are everywhere and does anyone realize how these things affect them. Have you heard a motor underwater where its sound travels for miles? The rampant “overlooked”, “leaked” and “legal” pollution in our oceans worldwide, is also affecting sealife and affecting developing brains of sea creatures.

The true real story of Free Willy is a horrible story and so tragic for the real Keiko, being rejected by his own people and by his own species. And his old tank mate Kiska, is a more tragic story with no escape. I saw both of these Orcas at MarineLand (MarineHell!) as a child and never understood then. I was terribly saddened to know that after repeated public knowledge and requests that Kiska succumbed to her misery, alone in March this year. And these practices aren’t changing. Ignorant idiots still PAY TO SEE THE TORTURE at MarineHell!!! So if a few humans get knocked off a few boats, I have zero, zilch sympathy for those humans who may perish. Maybe they’re trying to CULL humans!! 🤣 In that case…YOU GO WILDLIFE GO!!!
Already too many ignorant human maggots on this planet. I WILL ALWAYS support wildlife over humanity. They have suffered immensely for centuries at the hands of humanity. TIME TO STOP THIS CRUELTY NOW!!!!

  13. Paula Long says:

Please allow these poor whales live the rest of their lives in the oceans where they belong. We all must become more compassionate to all wildlife.

  14. Urszula Lund says:

Holding orcas in captivity is ENVIRONMENTAL CRIME and should be prohibited by law across the world. MAX JAIL and harsh fines for greedy human scum making profit on these majestic, intelligent and family-oriented animals!!

  15. Wendy+Morrison says:

NO WHALES & ALL OTHER ANIMALS are NOT MEANT TO USE FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES!!!!

  16. josie olive says:

Please release these majestic creatures and replace them with your family and see how you like it
