About 300 dogs who had reportedly suffered from severe neglect were seized from a Nevada property. The animals had allegedly sustained extensive injuries from being packed into close quarters. Suspects Oksana Higgins and Vasili Platunov were charged with felony animal cruelty. Yet what may seem like the end of the story could be the beginning of an even worse tale.
Recent disclosures, including obtained emails, paint a picture of potential pervasive abuse that lasted for years…all allegedly under the noses—and even with the possible assistance—of local officials. For one, the suspects, who are reportedly animal breeders–had received frequent visits because they were apparently in violation of town ordinances about the number of animals allowed on a property. A district judge’s so-called solution was not to shut down this enterprise but instead to let the dogs be moved to another region. Animal control officers then supposedly aided the relocation of these dogs to the property where they would eventually be seized and even helped buy cages and other materials.
And these allegations are not the end of the story, either. A few months before the seizure, this same animal control unit is said to have written up over 200 violations against the suspects. The district attorney, however, apparently did not lift a finger in pursuing these potential charges. Now that officials are in the hot seat, an internal investigation has suddenly been launched by a sheriff’s office also under fire for alleged inaction.

Oksana Higgins and Vasili Platunov allegedly put hundreds of dogs at severe risk, but according to the increasingly troubling reports they may not have been alone. Allegations have emerged that the sheriff’s office, the district court system, and even a county attorney’s office may have each played a role in perpetuating these deeply troubling circumstances. A community must be able to rely upon its legal professionals to uphold the law, no matter where the facts lead. As has been frequently repeated, a coverup can be much worse than the actual crime.
Please ensure that Oksana Higgins and Vasili Platunov are prosecuted to the fullest extent. But also hold any person who may have helped continue their alleged crimes morally and legally accountable as well.

Punish each 0erson that neglected their duties of seizing these animals n getting them help…strip them of their job, their retirement, put them in jail for at least 3 years, then upon release, house arrest for another 5 years, they must wear an ankle bracelet, plus 10 years active probation after house arrest n ankle bracelet is done!!

Why do they still allow puppy mills to operate?? Its cruel! And this whole conspiracy theory thingy must be addressed properly! Animal lives are important too, they deserve goodness, happiness, love, and respect! Tighten your law on animal cruelty! Significant jail time for all perps involved!

Apparently these officials were on the take and are worse than the breeders for allowing such abuse to go on. Innocent animals suffered because of lack of humanity for life . All involved need prison time.
The officials and the abusers are absolutely trash and evil, and all of them involved in this heinous act of cruelty MUST be given the maximum jail time and fined heavily. These officials were obviously paid to keep quiet. It is about time governments make it a crime to abuse or neglect any animal. All animals are innocent and the human race are the evil species.

The authorities need balls but quite obviously this district attorney was just spineless! How many cases of abuse and neglect to a living creature do you need before you do something. Get off your fat arses and do the right thing this time round
Agree all comments .eye for a eye need to have a permit to own sell buy animals and yearly property inspections.

my heart bleeds because of this senseless mass murder of these innocent animals who can NEVER defend themselves.
It is insane that the very people who are supposed to act, pursue, and convict people who commit animal abuse and neglect stand there doing nothing and allow the abuse to continue. Animal Control as a unit in general in my opinion are useless. Absolutely useless and this case is an example of that. Having provided approx 200 or more violations to the suspects Oksana Higgins and Vasili Platunov and yet Animal Control allowed this abuse to continue. As I said, USELESS. They never were good protectors for animals. Seems that these poor animals suffered a great deal while every level of protection for them in the State of Nevada failed them. Failed them miserably. And then Government wonders why the general public views them as the enemy.
