Target: Tom Wolf, Governor of Pennsylvania
Goal: Praise Pennsylvania for creating a stricter animal protection law.
Pennsylvania is enforcing a new law to protect dogs from heat-related deaths. Libre’s Law dictates that on hot days, dogs can only be left tethered outside for a maximum of 30 minutes, and that anyone caught breaking this law will face harsher penalties and could face being taken to court.
This is not a national or even global law, but it is not to be taken lightly. One whole state has answered the call of petitions such as this one on ForceChange. Despite the many laws already in existence for the past several decades, people still chain their dogs outside or leave them in locked cars, causing their deaths by overheating or suffocation. Libre’s Law comes down much harder on such cases and will make examples of neglectful pet owners.
This may be a small step in the grand scheme of preventing heat-related deaths, but it is a highly important step. Hopefully, other states will soon follow Pennsylvania’s example and enforce stricter laws, like this 30-minute time limit for keeping a dog tethered outside. Sign this petition to thank Pennsylvania for protecting its dogs.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Governor Wolf,
Thank you for enforcing a statewide law to protect dogs from heat-related deaths and dehydration. In the past year alone, too many dogs have died to negligent owners who leave them tethered outside in sweltering heat for hours or locked in hot cars. It is cruel and inhumane to subject a dog to such suffering, even if by accident. Therefore, it is time people who commit these acts of neglect and abuse face harsher punishments. Thanks to your new law, it will be easier to take such people to court.
Hopefully, states will soon follow in your example and create similar laws. It is time to put an end to heat-related animal deaths for good. Even if we can only do so one step at a time, every step counts. Thank you for protecting the dogs of your state from such a fate.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
