Target: Chief Judge J. Michael Joiner of the Alabama’s Court of the Judiciary
Goal: Applaud the suspension of a judge who refused to follow same-sex marriage laws.
Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who failed to comply with Supreme Court rulings about same-sex marriage, has been suspended, thanks in part to activists such as those at ForceChange. Justice Moore issued an order stating that officials in the state had a “ministerial duty” to refuse marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Applaud that this homophobic man will no longer serve on the bench in Alabama.
The Supreme Court of the United States ruled in recent years that same-sex marriage is legal on a federal level and that same-sex couples must be granted marriage licenses. Moore’s actions were not just anti-gay, they violated federal law and deemed him unfit to serve as he could not do so impartially.
Justice Moore has been suspended without pay for the remainder of his term, which ends in 2019. At that time, Moore will be unable to seek reelection because of age restrictions in Alabama that bar anyone 70 and over from being elected or appointed as a judge.
In a time when the LGBTQ community has made massive progress both in social acceptance and policy, Moore’s views are inhumane and unwelcome. His personal religious views have no place in the judicial system. Sign this petition to celebrate that this homophobic bigot will no longer serve in a position of power in Alabama.

Dear Chief Judge Joiner,
The LGBTQ community has fought a long and strenuous battle for equal rights in the U.S. The Supreme Court of this country is there to protect these rights and dubbed same-sex marriage legal, yet Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore chose to defy the federal court because of his own bigoted beliefs.
This man did not deserve his position for trying to spread hate and ultimately violate the law. Thank you for suspending him for the remainder of his term and barring him from reelection so that same-sex couples can continue to enjoy their rights.
