Five Community Dogs Found Dead After Eating Lethal Pesticides: Catch the Poisoners

Target: Ciprian Ciucu, General Mayor of the Municipality of Bucharest, Romania

Goal: Track down whoever poisoned five community dogs with lethal agricultural chemicals and install cameras in unmonitored zones.

Five dogs. Forty-eight hours. Volunteer caretakers found their bodies near public transport hubs on the capital’s suburban edges. These were community dogs, fed and watched over by neighbors. Post-mortem toxicology screens confirmed they had swallowed lethal agricultural chemicals.

The poisoned baits were laid late at night in unmonitored zones without municipal closed-circuit cameras. The poisoners remain entirely unidentified. Romania’s specialized animal protection police have opened a formal criminal inquiry. National law punishes intentional animal slaughter with prison terms of up to seven years. Even so, the case remains unsolved. Forensic teams are struggling to trace the chemicals back to a specific agricultural supplier or local purchase.

Poison does not discriminate. A bait left on a street can also threaten other animals and children. Cameras and a serious municipal response can deter and catch people who do this. The city can act on what it controls. Sign this petition to demand cameras, patrols and justice.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor Ciucu,

Five community dogs died within 48 hours near public transport hubs on the capital’s suburban edges. Volunteer caretakers found their bodies. Toxicology screens confirmed they ingested lethal agricultural chemicals. The people who cared for them are grieving and afraid.

The baits were laid late at night in places with no municipal cameras. Nobody has been identified. Romania’s animal protection police have opened a criminal inquiry, but investigators are struggling to trace the chemicals to a supplier or purchase. Without evidence from the streets, poisoners can strike again.

We urge you to install closed-circuit cameras at transport hubs and other unmonitored zones where dogs gather. We also urge you to support investigators with municipal resources and increased night patrols. Please work with volunteer caretakers who know these neighborhoods best. Penalties of up to seven years only matter if someone is caught. Please help make that happen. Thank you for your leadership.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
