Dogs Allegedly Bred for Combat: Pursue Accountability

Target: Bryan P. Stirling, United States Attorney, District of South Carolina

Goal: Prosecute the alleged dogfighting conspiracy involving more than one hundred seized dogs, seeking substantial sentences for offenses proved against each defendant.

A carpet allegedly containing canine blood. Heavy chains, weighted collars, and equipment apparently used to prepare dogs for fighting. A federal indictment describes a suspected operation in which animals were bred, housed, and trained for violent encounters. More than one hundred dogs were seized during the investigation across several properties.

Seven defendants face charges arising from the alleged operation, including a former sheriff’s deputy. Prosecutors allege that participants shared images and videos of fighting and injured dogs. Each allegation must be tested fairly, regardless of a defendant’s former employment.

The case demands sustained attention to both the alleged network and the animals recovered. Veterinary findings and documentary evidence should establish what each defendant did and what harm occurred. Support a federal prosecution, substantial sentences for proven offenses, and safe, individualized care for the dogs.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear U.S. Attorney Stirling,

Please pursue the alleged conspiracy in the case involving over a hundred seized dogs with the independence and thoroughness required when an investigation includes a former law enforcement officer. The indictment’s allegations concerning canine blood, fighting equipment, and recordings of injured dogs warrant careful examination.

Examine relevant communications, ownership records, and financial evidence through lawful processes to establish each defendant’s role and any supported involvement by others. Preserve veterinary assessments of the recovered dogs and distinguish documented injuries from assumptions about their history. Coordinate with the responsible caregivers so that treatment, behavioral evaluation, and decisions about placement address each animal’s actual needs.

When charges are proved, seek substantial sentences proportionate to the conduct, duration, and harm established in court. Pursue any authorized forfeiture and protective conditions necessary to prevent a demonstrated return to animal fighting. We ask for accountability that follows the evidence regardless of a defendant’s connections, together with attention to the dogs’ welfare throughout the case. Establish responsibility and protect animals while respecting each defendant’s right to a fair trial.

Sincerely,
