US finances are in chaos, with a ballooning national debt, growing trade deficits (spurred by massive spending on data centers), a potential AI bubble, and a volatile market. Hostile rhetoric from the top and unprecedented interventions by the nation’s treasury are not helping matters. Once again, the president is lashing out about interest rates and even threatened an all-out trade embargo on key allies if interest rates rose. Such an action would significantly exacerbate the damage already done by continued tariffs ruled illegal by the Supreme Court.
As for the treasury department, its secretary has joined in with the president’s threats and promised new tariffs on countries indirectly involved in the Iran conflict…a move he called “economic D-day.” In an even more destabilizing move, the secretary recently enacted a controversial bond buyback plan that could weaken consumers’ borrowing ability and that could undermine international debt holders’ confidence in the ability of the government to pay back its massive debt. Critics warn that continued interventions could irreparably hinder the department from doing its job effectively.

Proposed interventions and threats against allies only worsen the problems, while fundamental root issues like corporate debt and AI-heavy import demands are ignored.
Stop the theatrics, restore your department to full capacity, and get back to basics. Realign your priorities with a steady hand that accepts aid and abandons a closed fist approach.
