A nine-year-old girl was fatally shot after police in Pakistan who reportedly fired their guns at a vehicle with the girl inside. An officer apparently struck the girl due to a mistaken belief that the robbers had confiscated the vehicle. Another tragedy unfolded when a man in the proximity of a protest was likewise struck and killed by a bullet allegedly fired by security police. Despite Pakistan’s notoriety for authoritarian rule, authorities have vowed a transparent and independent investigation.

The grieving father of Australian national Hania Ahmed has implored a full and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his nine-year-0ld daughter’s death. Similar calls have been made for accountability in the death of British citizen Mohammad Akhtar, who lost his life during an exchange of gunfire (of which he was apparently not part) at a protest. The first case also resulted in injuries to two of the girl’s family members, all allegedly by product of police gunfire.
Please honor these calls for truth and transparency, and advocate for enhanced training protocols for officers and security personnel. Demonstrate to communities that lives will not be at risk from preventable tragedies.
