A 33-year-old resident identified as Escalante was arrested on drug distribution and animal cruelty charges following the search. Authorities later arrested 31-year-old Jean Hernandez on an animal cruelty charge after Hernandez arrived at the Animal Control facility seeking to reclaim the dog. Both individuals have been arraigned. Neither has been convicted, and responsibility for the pit bull’s reported condition remains unresolved.
Veterinary evidence may help establish how long the dog allegedly endured these conditions and whether the reported deprivation caused lasting harm.
