Service Dog Allegedly Slammed, Choked, and Beaten: Pursue Full Prosecution

Target: Alexcia Cox, State Attorney, Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, Palm Beach County, Florida

Goal: Fully prosecute allegations that a service dog was slammed onto pavement, choked with its leash, swung through the air, and beaten with a heavy bottle, and seek serious penalties if the charges are proven.

Witnesses described a disturbing series of alleged attacks on a black Labrador retriever wearing a red service vest. Emergency callers alleged that a man lifted the dog completely over his head and slammed the animal onto the pavement along South Federal Highway. The man and dog were gone before responding officers arrived.

The following morning, additional witnesses allegedly saw the same individual choking the Labrador with its leash, swinging the dog through the air, and repeatedly striking its midsection with a heavy water bottle. Responding officers say they observed the Labrador visibly shaking and appearing terrified. Investigators later identified Juan Poole as the suspect and arrested him on multiple animal cruelty counts. Poole has not been convicted, and the allegations remain unresolved.

The Labrador is undergoing forensic veterinary testing to document possible internal injuries, while investigators continue seeking additional video evidence. Prosecutors should thoroughly evaluate surveillance footage, witness statements, veterinary findings, and any other admissible evidence. If the charges are proven beyond a reasonable doubt, seek serious penalties proportionate to the conduct established in court.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State Attorney Cox,

Witnesses allege that a black Labrador wearing a service vest was lifted overhead and slammed onto pavement. Additional witnesses allegedly saw the same dog choked with its leash, swung through the air, and repeatedly struck in the midsection with a heavy water bottle.

Juan Poole was arrested on multiple animal cruelty counts. Please ensure prosecutors fully examine the surveillance footage, eyewitness accounts, forensic veterinary findings, and any additional recordings gathered by investigators.

If prosecutors prove the animal cruelty charges beyond a reasonable doubt, pursue meaningful penalties reflecting the severity of the proven conduct. A service dog allegedly subjected to repeated public violence deserves a complete, evidence-driven prosecution and appropriate accountability for every offense ultimately established.

Sincerely,
