Julius Deane Griffin, a convicted dogfighter with a long history of animal cruelty, was reportedly found with 17 live dogs, one deceased dog, and an array of illegal equipment related to dogfighting in his Tulsa home. Disturbingly, it is alleged that Griffin trained dogs in a dark basement, subjecting them to starvation and grueling treadmill exercises to force them into fighting conditions. The cruelty these animals seemingly face is exacerbated by Griffin’s believed connections to criminal gangs and his history of violence, including assaults on women.
Further complicating the issue, Anthony DeVore, a former president of the Oklahoma Gamefowl Commission, was convicted of participating as a spectator at an illegal cockfight and has been accused of running a major cockfighting complex in Bryan County. This network of illegal activities has reportedly continued to thrive under the guise of criminal justice advocacy, highlighting the apparent disregard for animal welfare and public safety.
It is imperative that authorities take immediate and decisive action against those involved in dogfighting and animal cruelty operations. Law enforcement must ensure that individuals like Griffin and DeVore face significant penalties to deter future crimes and protect vulnerable animals from further abuse.
