According to official reports, investigators executing a search warrant at a Wedgefield residence rescued 123 living dogs and 11 cats from conditions marked by severe neglect, chronic starvation, and untreated illness. Authorities further reported discovering the remains of 125 deceased dogs buried or concealed throughout the property in varying stages of decomposition.
Veterinary teams immediately transferred the surviving animals to emergency treatment facilities, where many required intensive care for severe infections, malnutrition, and other medical complications. Two property owners were arrested and face multiple allegations involving animal cruelty, ill-treatment of animals, and the improper disposal of animal remains. The criminal proceedings remain in their earliest stages. No court has determined criminal liability, and no criminal penalties have been imposed.
