30 Donkeys Found Starving and Mutilated at Suspected Illegal Slaughterhouse: Demand Accountability

Target: Renson Mulele Ingonga, Director of Public Prosecutions, Nairobi, Kenya

Goal: Pursue all lawful penalties for those responsible for confining more than thirty donkeys without food or water at an alleged illegal slaughter operation, causing severe suffering.

Authorities launched a criminal investigation after Nairobi County veterinary officers and administrative police raided a commercial property following reports of unusual odors and repeated animal distress. According to official reports, officers entered the premises during a multi-agency operation after receiving information from concerned local residents.

Authorities discovered more than thirty donkeys confined in cramped, poorly ventilated enclosures without adequate food or clean drinking water. Many of the animals suffered deep rope lacerations, open sores, and advanced emaciation consistent with prolonged neglect. Investigators also recovered butchery equipment and biological waste that they alleged may indicate illegal slaughter activity at the property.

The surviving donkeys were seized and transferred to a secure sanctuary, where they are receiving veterinary treatment and nutritional rehabilitation under the supervision of the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals. Detectives continue reviewing physical evidence and mobile phone records while attempting to identify any individuals who may have participated in the reported operation. No suspect has been arrested yet.

Working animals deserve humane treatment throughout their lives. Thorough investigation and vigorous enforcement are essential to deter similar conduct and protect vulnerable animals from preventable suffering.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Ingonga,

Authorities rescued more than thirty donkeys after executing a raid at a property investigators suspected may have been operating outside the law.

Officers found the animals confined without adequate food or water, and investigators alleged that evidence recovered at the scene may be associated with unlawful slaughter activities. Those circumstances remain subject to judicial determination, and investigators continue working to identify those responsible.

Please ensure that this investigation receives every available prosecutorial resource and that, if suspects are identified and the evidence supports the allegations, all appropriate criminal penalties are pursued. If investigators establish the culpability of those responsible for these animals’ suffering, meaningful accountability should follow under Kenyan law.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
