9 Dogs Allegedly Abused and Beaten by Owner: Seek Justice

Target: Prasanna Kumar, Director General and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka, India

Goal: Pursue all lawful penalties if the evidence supports allegations that nine companion dogs were beaten and otherwise abused, and ensure they remain protected while criminal proceedings continue.

A criminal case involving the reported abuse of nine companion dogs has drawn widespread concern after a higher court intervened to prevent the animals from being returned to their owner. According to public court records, the dogs had previously been seized during an investigation into alleged cruelty and were later the subject of conflicting judicial orders.

According to the First Information Report and statements presented before the court, six Golden Retrievers and three Shih Tzus may have been subjected to repeated physical abuse, including beatings with a pipe and sexual abuse. A magistrate ordered the dogs returned to the owner’s custody, but that order was subsequently set aside by the High Court. In its ruling, the High Court emphasized that animals are sentient beings and that ownership does not provide immunity from animal welfare laws. Criminal proceedings remain pending, seven of the dogs have been placed with foster families and no court has determined criminal liability.

If the evidence establishes that companion animals were subjected to prolonged abuse, meaningful accountability would be appropriate. The law exists to protect animals from preventable suffering, regardless of who owns them. Continued protection of these dogs while the case proceeds is equally essential.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear DGP Kumar,

Authorities initiated criminal proceedings after allegations emerged involving the treatment of nine companion dogs, and the High Court later prevented their return to the accused owner’s custody while the case continues. Investigators alleged that the dogs may have endured repeated physical abuse and other serious mistreatment.

Please ensure that this investigation receives every necessary resource and that, if the evidence ultimately supports the allegations, all available legal penalties are pursued. If investigators establish that these animals endured deliberate and prolonged suffering, appropriate accountability should follow under Indian law while the dogs remain protected throughout the proceedings.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
