Success: Reward Fund for Insurrectionists Thwarted

Target: Harry Dunn, United States Capitol Police Officer

Goal: Support blockage of slush fund that would have compensated convicted criminals at taxpayers’ expense.

As mentioned in this ForceChange petition, the support given to convicted January 6 insurrectionists by the president and his Department of Justice (DOJ) opened the door for taxpayer money to compensate individuals who rioted at the Capitol and assaulted police officers. Bipartisan outcry ensued when the DOJ seemingly gave the greenlight to such blood money by announcing the establishment of a 1.8-billion-dollar, so-called “anti-weaponization” slush fund, intended for people convicted of crimes under the previous DOJ. Strangely absent from these payout offers were the men and women (political opponents of the president) being directly targeted by the current DOJ. But it appears in the slush fund case, justice has prevailed…just not at the hands of the Department of Justice.

Two officers who were on-duty January 6 sued the administration, calling the “anti-weaponization” fund a “corrupt sham” that would reward “the insurrectionists and paramilitary groups” who committed violence on that fateful day. Then, the federal judge who had been handling the case that enabled the creation of the slush fund let the DOJ know in no uncertain terms that she will be investigating and likely rectifying the potential “fraud on the court” that the slush fund settlement instigated. After Congress left town with a refusal to vote on the slush fund, the Speaker of the House had an emergency meeting with the president. Now, reports cite administration sources declaring of the controversial fund: “it’s dead.” DOJ officials seemingly backed up the claim by stating they would honor a court ruling to block the fund.

Sign the petition below to thank one of the Capitol defenders who spoke out and spoke up for justice.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Officer Dunn,

“It will invariably put us in a position where your taxpayer dollars and my taxpayer dollars could potentially compensate someone who assaulted a police officer, admitted their guilt, got convicted, got pardoned and now we are going to pay them for that. That’s absurd.” These words from a U.S. Congressman encapsulate the outrage and absurdity of the “anti-weaponization” fund that very likely would have rewarded the insurrectionists who assaulted your colleagues and yourself.

Thank you for taking the brave legal step of filing a lawsuit that could subject you to more unwarranted threats. Thank you for your contributions in hopefully and permanently halting this offensive slush fund. And most of all, thank you for your service in defending democracy.

Sincerely,
