Emaciated Cows Allegedly Forced to Eat Dirt: Demand Maximum Penalties

Target: Bill Gladson, State Attorney, Fifth Judicial Circuit, Florida

Goal: Pursue maximum animal cruelty penalties against individual allegedly responsible for starving livestock and denying cattle adequate food and clean water.

A disturbing livestock cruelty investigation intensified after agricultural investigators and Lake County deputies discovered 31 severely emaciated cows living in catastrophic conditions on a rural property in Tavares, Florida. Authorities launched the investigation after receiving an anonymous tip regarding possible neglect involving the herd.

Responding veterinarians documented advanced muscle wasting among the cattle, with hip bones, ribs and spinal structures sharply protruding through the animals’ skin. Investigators further reported that the pasture had become completely overgrazed, while the cattle ingested weeds and dirt in attempts to survive. Authorities additionally stated that the herd lacked reliable access to clean drinking water and adequate forage.

The property owner was arrested at the scene and charged with multiple misdemeanor and felony counts involving neglect and failure to provide sustenance. Rescue groups have since supplied emergency hay, grain and veterinary care to stabilize the surviving animals. The criminal case has only recently entered the judicial system, and no prosecution has yet occurred. If substantiated, these allegations would represent prolonged neglect and severe suffering inflicted upon vulnerable livestock animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State Attorney Gladson,

Authorities have made allegations of 31 cows left severely emaciated without proper forage or clean drinking water on a rural property. Investigators documented advanced starvation and dangerous physical deterioration among the herd.

Law enforcement officials arrested one individual and filed multiple criminal charges connected to the reported conditions. If proven, the alleged conduct would represent prolonged neglect and severe suffering inflicted upon defenseless livestock animals.

We urge your office to pursue maximum penalties against any individuals found responsible for this alleged starvation and neglect case.

Sincerely,
