Don’t Pervert Justice Into Inhumane Vengeance Campaign

Target: Todd Blanche, Acting U.S. Attorney General

Goal: Do not resume executions by electric chair, firing squad, or gas exposure.

Convulsions, seizures, suffocation, and ghastly, bloody wounds: most people would likely agree that dying with these effects – or witnessing deaths with these effects – would be horrific and cruel. The federal government is looking to make the nightmares a reality. Officials have announced that they will resume inflicting electrocution, gas asphyxiation, and firing squads on condemned human beings.

These execution methods had fallen out of use after numerous legal challenges claiming they constituted cruel and unusual punishment. In 2022, a lower court judge concurred with these challenges. But because of so-called “supply chain shortages” of lethal injection drugs, federal officials have determined that cheapness and “expedited” processes trump human suffering. This move is in line with the administration’s hardline return to death penalty cases after the practice has been significantly scaled back.

The United States remains the only developed civilization in the world that still uses execution as a form of punishment, all the while decrying murder as the ultimate crime. Sign the petition below to call for an end to the callous brutality.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Acting Attorney General Blanche,

Centuries ago, communities would gather and celebrate watching their fellow community members be disemboweled, lose their heads, starve to death, or gasp desperately for their final breaths as they kicked and thrashed.  Has the United States moved past putting death up as the ultimate entertainment spectacle? If the proposed returns of asphyxiation, electric chairs, and bullet-riddled bodies to the halls of death row are any indication, the answer is an affirmative no.

If you do not care about the trauma these inmates may very well endure in their final moments, have you considered how spectators might feel watching another human being shot or electrocuted to death? Have you ever visited a gas chamber and imagined the atrocities that unfolded in that suffocating space? Have you ever seen an autopsy photo of a victim of a mass shooting or an electric shock? Perhaps if you did, these haunting images seared in your brain would make you think twice about playing judge and cruel executioner. End this heartless policy reversal. A few blood-soaked dollars saved are not worth the human toll.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
