Kitten Allegedly Left Paralyzed After Beating Deserves Justice

Target: Interim CEO Shan Nichols, RSPCA

Goal: Enforce stricter penalties for individuals involved in the alarming rise of animal cruelty cases during the summer months.

Reports of animal cruelty have surged alarmingly in the UK, with one incident occurring every 15 minutes during the summer as revealed by the RSPCA’s Summer Cruelty Campaign. In Hampshire alone, reports of animal beatings have skyrocketed by 64 percent since 2020, from 64 cases to 105 in just four years. Disturbingly, nationally, there has been a staggering 105 percent increase in reports across England and Wales during the same period, indicating a worrying trend of violence against animals that demands urgent attention and action.

The emotional toll of these incidents cannot be overstated. A notable case involved a kitten named Moose, who was reportedly beaten so brutally that he was left paralyzed, only able to move his eyes. Although Moose eventually recovered after significant care from the RSPCA, many animals suffer in silence and do not receive the same chance at rehabilitation. Increased visibility of these incidents through technology has exposed a horrifying reality—animal beatings are happening in public and private spaces, necessitating more robust measures to hold offenders accountable.

The alarming trends and specific instances of cruelty underscore the urgent need for stricter penalties for those who commit such acts. The suffering of countless animals hinges on effective legal responses to these heinous acts. This petition demands that appropriate and severe punishment be applied to individuals responsible for animal cruelty, ensuring that justice is served and that such distressing statistics do not continue to rise.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Nichols,

The recent data presented in your Summer Cruelty Campaign has unveiled a distressing reality: an alarming increase in reported cases of animal cruelty, rising to one report every 15 minutes during the summer months. In Hampshire, the increase in reported animal beatings stands at a staggering 64 percent from 2020 to 2024, indicating that vulnerable animals are suffering at unprecedented rates. Nationally, the situation is even worse, with reports of animal beatings more than doubling in July and August alone during this past summer.

The case of Moose, a kitten allegedly brutally beaten until left paralyzed, serves as a chilling example of the suffering endured by many animals due to human cruelty. While Moose was fortunate enough to receive care and rehabilitation, many other animals are not as fortunate and continue to endure pain and suffering at the hands of their abusers. The urgent need for effective action against this rising trend cannot be overstated—without stronger legal repercussions, the cycle of violence will continue.

We urge you to advocate for the enforcement of stricter penalties against those convicted of animal cruelty. It is essential to ensure that justice is served and that these appalling acts are met with appropriate consequences, thereby deterring potential offenders and protecting our animal companions.

Sincerely,
