Stop Keeping Starving Animals in Tiny Cages at Fur and Urine Farms

Target: Mike DeWine, Ohio Governor

Goal: Implement strict regulations and appropriate punishment for those responsible for the horrific conditions at fur and urine farms.

Reports reveal shocking abuses in the fur and urine farming industry in Ohio, where over 400 animals, including wolf dogs, were allegedly kept in horrific conditions that led to numerous deaths and suffering. Survivors rescued from these farms are now traumatized, and the lack of regulations allows such cruelty to continue unchecked. Animal welfare organizations have meticulously documented these abuses, highlighting the desperate need for reform, accountability, and protection for vulnerable wildlife.

Many animals were allegedly found in wire-bottom cages exposed to bitter cold, deprived of food and fresh water, with some left to consume decomposed remains of fellow creatures. Of the animals rescued, many were reportedly already dead, and around 100 had to be euthanized due to their dire conditions. These advances raise serious moral and legal questions about the treatment of these animals and the oversight—or lack thereof—affecting fur and urine farms across the country, which currently operate in a regulatory gray area.

It is imperative that laws are enacted and enforced to prevent such neglect and cruelty in the future. This petition demands the implementation of strict regulations and significant penalties for those involved in the fur trade to ensure that no animals suffer as these did. It is crucial that legislative action be taken swiftly to establish humane standards and safeguard these animals from further exploitation and torment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor DeWine,

Recent reports of abhorrent conditions at fur and urine farms in Ohio reveal a disturbing reality for many animals, including wolf dogs. An investigation into a farm in Ashtabula disclosed that over 400 animals were allegedly confined in wire cages, exposed to harsh elements, with no food and water, leading to suffering and death. Such cruel treatment is unacceptable, and the state must take immediate action to ensure that animals are not subjected to such horrors again.

It is reported that many of the animals rescued were found dead, and among the survivors significant numbers required euthanasia due to their harsh conditions. This indicates a catastrophic failure of oversight that leaves animals vulnerable to exploitation and cruelty. The absence of comprehensive regulations governing fur and urine farms allows such practices to thrive unchecked, and it is essential that strict laws be enacted to protect these animals from future harm.

Therefore, we urge you to prioritize the development and implementation of stringent regulations concerning fur and urine farms and ensure those responsible for these alleged atrocities are held accountable. Let Ohio lead the way in animal welfare by ensuring that the rights and welfare of animals are paramount in our laws.

Sincerely,
