WWF: Drop Support for Cruel Polar Bear Hunt

Target: Dr. Adil Najam, President of World Wildlife Fund

Goal: Stop wildlife charity from reportedly lobbying against conservation protections for polar bears and other vulnerable wildlife.

One of the world’s top wildlife charities is apparently promoting practices that put vulnerable populations of polar bears and other wild animals at risk. A years-long investigation by the newspaper The Guardian reported that the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has reportedly actively backed the hunting of polar bears and the trading of their hides as part of so-called “conservation” hunting practices. The WWF apparently even lobbied against granting robust protections to the animals at a major international meeting on endangered species.

The charity has also seemingly argued against endangered designations for a host of other animals, including giraffes, elephants, rhinos, and hippos. Many wildlife conservation non-profits have spoken out against the WWF’s stance. In the case of polar bears, several nations have banned hunting the animals.

Sign the petition below to demand this organization that is supposed to advocate for wildlife reverse its seemingly deceptive and hypocritical posturing in regard to vulnerable species.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Dr. Najam,

Wildlife lovers the world over support the WWF financially and logistically because they are compelled to action by the stories and the photographs this organization puts forward. How many of these individuals signed on to the cause so their money could apparently support trophy hunting, hide trading, and other practices that undermine the very mission of saving wild lives? Seemingly lobbying the Convention of the International Trade in Endangered Species to deprive multiple animals of full protections certainly does not fulfill this mission. Neither does supposed support for the hunting of a vulnerable species: a practice that benefits wealthy international traders far more than indigenous populations.

A deluge of critics who share the stated mission of animal conservation have spoken against these questionable stances. The WWF is a respected leader in wildlife advocacy. Honor this platform and its supporters by protecting living beings instead of promoting the paradox of “lethal conservation.”

Sincerely,
