Target: Martha Whitmore, Montrose County, Colorado Attorney
Goal: Prosecute case involving dozens of missing cattle to fullest extent.
While the disappearance or harm of livestock is sometimes the subject of extraterrestrial conspiracy theories, a recent case in the Southwest is believed to have a more earthly – and potentially criminal –explanation. Roughly 180 cattle have mysteriously vanished in Colorado. When multiple Montrose County ranchers went to retrieve their grazing cattle, they found that many of their herd members had disappeared without a trace.
The animals, many of which were young calves, were last seen on a high plateau in a national forest area. Accidents or illnesses are typically blamed for isolated incidents. But the lack of physical signs of the cattle – along with the sheer number of missing members – has led authorities to believe the cattle may have been stolen.
These animals need to be located and their welfare ensured. Sign the petition below to compel prosecutors to bring maximum charges in the event foul play is involved.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Ms. Whitmore.
The disappearance of 180 cattle in Montrose County in not just a blow to agriculture or ranchers’ finances. Until these animals are recovered, their well-being and level of care received cannot be known. Anyone who may have stolen the cattle and endangered them needs to face strong consequences.
When and if suspects are apprehended in this case, please bring charges that reflect not only theft but animal welfare violations as well.
Sincerely,
