Over 50 Horses Reportedly Left to Die: Demand Maximum Prison Term

Target: Ronald J. Freitas, District Attorney of San Joaquin County, California

Goal: Seek the longest allowable prison sentences, lifetime animal-ownership bans, and full restitution from the individuals who allegedly allowed dozens of horses to die and suffer.

Dozens of horse carcasses were reportedly discovered strewn across multiple rural properties after deputies executed search warrants. Investigators allegedly found more than 50 dead horses alongside severely malnourished animals who were still clinging to life. According to authorities, the scene also revealed indications of cockfighting, neglected livestock, and even illegal firearms. Officials stated that surviving animals were in desperate need of care when removed from the properties.

Two suspects—one facing 23 felony counts and the other charged with multiple felonies—were arrested after a months-long, multi-agency investigation. The felony counts include at least 20 allegations of animal cruelty as well as offenses involving sawed-off firearms and cockfighting paraphernalia.

Animal advocates fear that without decisive punishment, such large-scale suffering could recur. California law provides meaningful penalties for aggravated animal cruelty. Sign below and demand prosecutors pursue every available charge, request maximum incarceration, require lifetime prohibitions on possessing animals, and secure restitution to fund ongoing care for the rescued survivors.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Ronald J. Freitas,

Deputies and animal-control officers reportedly uncovered a grim tableau on Clements-area properties: more than 50 horses dead and additional animals languishing without adequate food or water. Your office has since filed dozens of felony and misdemeanor counts, citing animal cruelty, neglect, cockfighting, and illegal firearm possession.

The scale and apparent deliberateness of these actions reflect extraordinary brutality. Each seemingly starved or deceased horse represents prolonged torment, and the alleged cockfighting operation suggests systematic abuse for profit or entertainment. Communities across the county depend on strong enforcement to deter future atrocities, safeguard animals, and uphold public trust in the justice system.

We respectfully urge you to continue pursuing the severest penalties permitted by law, including the maximum prison terms, permanent bans on animal ownership, and financial restitution earmarked for the long-term rehabilitation of surviving animals. Vigorous prosecution will send an unmistakable message that San Joaquin County rejects cruelty in all forms.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
