Target: Wes Streeting, UK Secretary of State for Health and Social Care
Goal: Increase education about and access to life-saving vaccines for minority groups.
Over 7,000 ethnic minorities in the United Kingdom (UK) may be at risk for severe illness or death. This troubling finding reflects a serious problem with under-vaccination amongst these groups. With regard to the COVID-19 vaccines alone, in some cases white citizens have double the vaccination rates of other ethnic groups.
As a consequence, the under-vaccinated groups have a much higher risk of serious complications leading to hospitalization. Vaccination is key to preventing the worst outcomes for a number of illnesses. If these groups are running behind on COVID vaccines, chances are immense that they may be in danger of contracting other harmful conditions.
Sign the petition below to urge a greater public outreach toward these endangered populations.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Secretary Streeting,
A study involving over 65 million people across the United Kingdom uncovered a deep chasm between COVID vaccination rates for white individuals versus rates for a number of different ethnic groups. Individuals within these populations, especially the very young, the elderly, and the sick, will suffer the consequences of this large gap. History has demonstrated both with COVID-19 and with many other conditions that vaccination is a key and often vital weapon.
Please help ensure that as many UK citizens as possible are given access to this protection. Raise public awareness and launch targeted vaccination access campaigns that can improve public health outcomes across the landscape.
Sincerely,
