Roosters Allegedly Forced to Fight to the Death in Cockfighting Ring Deserve Justice

Target: Peter Neronha, Attorney General of Rhode Island

Goal: Ensure the individuals charged with operating and participating in a cockfighting venture face the maximum legal penalties.

In a disturbing case from Providence, Rhode Island, six men have been charged with violating the U.S. Animal Welfare Act for their alleged involvement in a brutal cockfighting operation. According to federal officials, these men organized and participated in cockfighting “derbies” at a Providence residence, where roosters were reportedly armed with sharp instruments to fight until one or both birds were severely injured or killed.

The operation was allegedly orchestrated by a 73-year-old man who hosted the fights at his home and is accused of sponsoring and exhibiting the roosters, buying sharp “gaffs” for the fights, and possessing roosters for use in the derbies. Additional charges were filed against two other Rhode Island men and three Massachusetts men for sponsoring, exhibiting, and transporting birds and sharp instruments for the cockfights.

Cockfighting is not only a violation of animal welfare laws, but it is also an extreme form of animal cruelty. The brutal nature of this “sport,” where roosters are forced to fight to the death or severe injury, highlights the need for strict enforcement of laws protecting animals from such abuse.

We must demand that U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Neronha pursue the maximum penalties for these individuals, sending a clear message that cruelty and exploitation of animals will not be tolerated. Demand stricter penalties for those who engage in or facilitate animal fighting ventures, ensuring that such barbaric practices are eradicated.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Attorney General Peter Neronha,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the recent charges brought against six individuals in Providence for their alleged involvement in a cockfighting operation. Cockfighting is a barbaric practice that subjects animals to extreme cruelty and suffering for the sake of entertainment and profit. The violent nature of these fights, where roosters are armed with sharp objects and forced to fight to the death or severe injury, is a clear violation of the U.S. Animal Welfare Act.

These men, who allegedly organized and participated in cockfighting derbies, must be held accountable for their actions. I urge your office to pursue the maximum legal penalties available under the law. This is not only a matter of upholding the law but also an opportunity to demonstrate that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our community.

Additionally, I encourage the implementation of stronger enforcement measures to prevent such cruelty from occurring in the future. The brutal exploitation of animals for sport must be met with swift and decisive justice.

Sincerely,

  1. A 73 year old man hosted these fights? If he’s that old his mother taught him manners. He’s lost them now. An American man? This is a horrible way to live as he is a burden to society. It will take more time to convict him than he may live. I feel he did the damage and all who are associated with him need to be rounded up and placed in a cage with hands tied behind their backs. Allow the roosters to attack these men, with all their metal adorning them, to help the roosters cut the eyes of the men in the cage. Show these men what it feels like to bee stripped of all dignity and forced to fight. Do this while they can see. The whole world is going insane and creeps like these don’t help bring the standard up to a higher level as it needs to be.
