Demand Maximum Penalty for Man Who Froze Cat for 14 Hours

Target: Gali Baharav Miara, Attorney General of Israel

Goal: Ensure that the grocery store owner receives the maximum penalty for his cruel and inhumane treatment of a helpless cat, and advocate for strict enforcement of animal cruelty laws.

A deeply troubling case of animal cruelty has surfaced in Ashdod, where a grocery store owner was convicted of capturing a stray cat and placing it in a freezer for 14 hours. The cat was trapped in an ice cream freezer, enduring extreme cold temperatures that caused severe frostbite and immense suffering. Despite the defendant’s claims that he was unaware of the cruelty involved, the court rejected his defense, recognizing that the prolonged confinement in such harsh conditions amounted to torture and abuse.

The defendant admitted that he had been frustrated by the cat’s presence in his grocery store, citing damage to his business and fear from his employees. However, his decision to place the cat in the freezer, leading to significant physical harm, is a clear violation of the Animal Abuse Law and reflects a total disregard for the welfare of animals. Veterinary experts confirmed that the cat suffered greatly, with its legs frozen to the point of severe frostbite.

The court has yet to issue a sentence, but it is imperative that the maximum penalties under the law be imposed. Ensure strict legal consequences to deter such acts of cruelty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Gali Baharav Miara,

I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent conviction of an Ashdod grocery store owner who trapped a stray cat in a freezer for 14 hours, resulting in severe frostbite and immense suffering for the animal. This heinous act of cruelty is a clear violation of the Animal Abuse Law and represents an extreme lack of compassion and responsibility toward animals.

The defendant’s actions, which included placing the cat in a running ice cream freezer, caused prolonged and unnecessary pain to a helpless animal. Despite multiple warnings from veterinary experts about the physical damage the cat endured, the defendant continued to claim ignorance of the cruelty involved. This case of abuse is both morally and ethically reprehensible, and it is essential that justice is served.

As you prepare to sentence the defendant, I urge you to impose the maximum penalty allowed under the law. Animal cruelty must be met with strong legal consequences to send a clear message that such inhumane treatment will not be tolerated. It is vital that we protect the most vulnerable in our society, including animals, and ensure that those who harm them are held fully accountable.

Sincerely,

  1. This grocery store owner will pay a deep price for his intentions to freeze a cat. I’m certain this cat could have been stopped in other ways then freezing him almost to death. It sounds bad and the cat was probably put out of their misery. People should have better sense than to torture an animal. But when they do, they need to also be tortured. The whole world seems to be crazy these days. This is a beautiful planet, a living planet, but we are not appreciative of our planet earth. We also don’t seem to appreciate other people and countries nor are we able to live together in peace.
