Penalize Officer Who Allegedly Left K-9 in Hot Car to Die

Target: Andrew Bailey, Missouri Attorney General

Goal: Ensure officer faces the maximum legal consequences for allegedly causing the death of a K-9, Horus.

A tragic case of alleged animal abuse has emerged in Savannah, Missouri, where Police Lieutenant Daniel Zeigler is charged with animal abuse following the death of K-9 Horus, a police dog under his care. On June 20, Horus tragically died after being left in a hot police vehicle overnight. According to the probable cause statement, Zeigler’s police car was equipped with a safety feature that is designed to honk and roll down the windows when the interior temperature exceeds 90 degrees. However, it is believed that someone turned off the safety feature, leading to the dog’s death from heat exposure.

Witness reports indicated that Horus’ body was found outside the police vehicle the following morning, with Zeigler allegedly stating that he thought he had taken the dog inside after his shift. The investigation has raised concerns about potential negligence and has led to a charge of animal abuse against Zeigler.

This case highlights the need for a thorough investigation and strong legal action to ensure accountability. K-9 officers play a vital role in law enforcement and deserve the highest level of care and respect. It is essential that the Missouri Attorney General’s Office pursues justice for K-9 Horus. Seek the maximum legal penalties for those responsible for this tragic loss.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear AG Andrew Bailey,

I am writing to express my deep concern and sadness regarding the recent case involving Savannah Police Lieutenant Daniel Zeigler, who has been charged with animal abuse in connection with the tragic death of K-9 Horus. According to reports, Horus died on June 20 after being left in a hot police vehicle overnight. The probable cause statement suggests that a safety feature designed to prevent such a tragedy may have been turned off, leading to Horus’ death.

This incident appears to represent a serious breach of trust and responsibility, particularly given the vital role that K-9 officers like Horus play in law enforcement. It is imperative that those responsible for such negligence are held accountable under the law to ensure that this type of tragedy does not happen again.

I urge you to pursue this case with the utmost seriousness and to seek the maximum legal penalties for Lieutenant Zeigler under Missouri’s animal abuse laws. Justice for K-9 Horus is essential not only to honor his memory but also to send a clear message that the well-being of service animals will always be protected.

Sincerely,

  1. This cop must be fired! Although accidents happen a respect and appreciation for the K9 should have stopped this tragedy from occurring. I thought K 9’s lived with their officer in the same home. This is something which should not have happened, yet it did. This man can not continue as a police officer. Too many harms come from officers involved with dogs but to harm one of your own is beyond comprehension.

  2. Maria Nowicki says:

This cop should be fired immediately. Put him in the same car overnight so he can experience what the dog went through. If the cop dies, all the better!

  3. Lesley Rodgers says:

This cruel cop is obviously lying, a person would know if they had their dog in the home or not, and at the end of a shift a normal caring person would FEED the dog and ensure it had water, especially in hot temperatures. His story is not true, it makes no sense. Either he was high on drink or drugs or both or he deliberately killed that poor dog in the most painful manner. He is a brutal monster and must be fired and put in prison.

  4. Irene Leggett says:

Another sack of s**t who is an utter disgrace to his badge and uniform. It appears that the new ‘normal’ for police officers is to be as cruel as possible towards dogs, if they don’t shoot them, they beat them or leave them to die in cars. Shame on the very people that are ‘supposed’ to protect and uphold the law.

  5. Clearly this cruel lying moron cop Daniel Zeigler shows no respect for K-9 Horus as he has disregarded his health and safety! Punish him harshly by terminating his contract with the police force immediately! He is not fit to serve and protect because he failed to do his duty diligently from the very beginning with his dog! Some cops are basically crooks and they really bring shame to the law enforcement. Lock him up in jail too for premeditated murder by not switching on the safety temperature feature … in the 1st place Horus should not be left to spend the night in a miserable car!

  6. “Zeigler allegedly stating that he thought he had taken the dog inside after his shift”

HOW COULD ANYONE NOT BE AWARE THE DOG IS NOT IN THE HOUSE??? This FUCKHEAD DIDN’T NOTICE THAT THE DOG WASN’T THERE???!!!

  7. How damn dumb can this worthless human be…..
He should never be in this kind of position or around animals of any kind.
