Launch Inquiry into Greyhound Racing Industry Amid Animal Abuse Allegations

Target: Hon. David Harris, NSW Minister for Gaming and Racing, Australia

Goal: Demand a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure animal welfare and industry integrity.

The New South Wales government, led by Minister for Gaming and Racing David Harris, has appointed The Hon Lea Drake to spearhead an independent inquiry into the state’s greyhound racing industry. This decision follows serious allegations of animal abuse within the industry. The inquiry will scrutinize Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) regarding its governance, operational practices, track safety, and adherence to animal welfare standards. Complaints from whistleblowers will also be investigated.

Minister Harris emphasized the importance of maintaining a competitive, responsible, and sustainable industry that prioritizes animal welfare and integrity. He affirmed his commitment to addressing the concerns raised and ensuring that the governing bodies and senior leadership of the racing codes meet these essential standards. The inquiry will leverage the full investigative powers of the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) to conduct a comprehensive review of all relevant issues.

GRNSW has expressed support for the inquiry, with acting CEO Wayne Billett welcoming Ms. Drake’s appointment. He highlighted Ms. Drake’s reputation for forensic inquiry and critical thinking, and expressed confidence in the external examination of GRNSW’s processes and modernization efforts.

This development follows the recent resignation of GRNSW’s chief executive, Robert Macauley, adding urgency to the need for thorough investigation and reform. Demand a thorough and transparent investigation.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Hon. David Harris,

I am writing to express my strong support for the recently announced independent inquiry into the NSW greyhound racing industry, led by The Hon Lea Drake. The allegations of animal abuse within Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) are deeply concerning and necessitate a thorough and transparent investigation.

The welfare of animals in the racing industry must be a top priority. The inquiry’s focus on GRNSW’s governance, operations, track safety, and animal welfare practices is crucial to ensuring that the industry adheres to the highest standards of integrity and responsibility. It is essential that all complaints, particularly those from whistleblowers, are rigorously examined and addressed.

I urge you to ensure that the inquiry utilizes the full investigative powers of the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) and maintains transparency throughout the process. The findings and recommendations must lead to meaningful reforms that protect the welfare of greyhounds and restore public confidence in the industry.

Thank you for your commitment to upholding animal welfare standards and ensuring the long-term viability and integrity of the greyhound racing industry.

Sincerely,

  1. Sigh, why not just ban and shut down all greyhounds races, poor dogs!

  2. These dogs were originally bred for hunting. Now they race so ugly people can make illegal money.

These dogs don’t deserve the lives we humans force them to live. They are loving and devoted and actually couch potatoes. Spain is supposedly stopping this racing and if they could do it then so can you. STOP your brutality and abuse of innocent souls.
