Goal: Give police officer prison sentence for allegedly keeping her sick dog locked inside crate.
A police officer, who has since resigned, was charged with animal cruelty after pictures appeared to show a malnourished dog that she owned standing inside a crate filled with waste. If these allegations are proven true it is important she spend time in jail to make it clear that such mistreatment by a law enforcement officer will not be tolerated.
Ross’s attorney is arguing that Ross and her husband had to keep the dog inside the crate when the animal suddenly became sick because the dog was not able to control bowel movements. Unfortunately, the dog’s accidents were thought to be a direct result of severe heart worm disease. According to the attorney, the animal was only put down after they learned about the dog’s illness and determined that treatment was not affordable.
The accused lawyer has pointed out that there is no statute in place to punish people for having a lack of resources. While this may be true, a person should think about all future expenses before obtaining a pet. Furthermore, keeping an animal locked inside a small crate to avoid the consequences of a medical problem should never be considered acceptable. Surrendering an animal to a reputable shelter or rescue group that may be able to provide the pet with the appropriate care is also a likely option in such times of distress. Sign this petition to demand the accused receive prison time if she is found guilty of allowing this innocent animal to needlessly suffer and die.

Dear State Attorney Boroughs,
A police officer, who has since resigned, was charged with animal cruelty after it was reported that her dog was emaciated and kept inside a filthy crate. The animal appeared to be standing to avoid lying down in waste.
Her attorney said that she and her husband chose to euthanize the dog because they could not afford to treat the dog’s heart worm disease. He therefore states that she should not be punished since vet care was not affordable. This argument is absurd since someone should strongly think about related expenses before getting a pet. Additionally, choosing to keep an animal locked inside a dirty crate for long periods of time to avoid a medical issue may be considered animal abuse. Furthermore, reaching out to a rescue organization or animal shelter may also be a viable option when one cannot afford pet care.
I therefore demand you suggest the accused be given the maximum sentence if it is discovered this dog suffered and died while under her care to send a clear message that animal abuse is never acceptable, especially by an individual who has taken an oath to uphold the law.

I have worked in vet clinics over 30 years. A dog that emaciated does not happen quickly. The pic also clearly shows multiple bowel movements and pooled standing urine. A responsible caring owner would take a pet to the vet whenever anything is out of the pet’s healthy norm, especially if it has been more than a day or two. Also, it is recommended that dogs be kept on heartworm prevention year round in the SC area, and even if on prevention, to still be tested annually. This is 100% a case of neglect, physical abuse and emotional abuse. If a heartworm test had been done and found positive early enough, the dog could have alternatively been treated with doxycycline combined with moxidectin product (such as Advantage Multi) or ivermectin product (such as Heartgard) used monthly over time. I personally treated an older stray black lab mama dog who tested heartworm positive this way; and in a year and a half, she was heartworm negative. I have another personal friend in rescue who did the same, and her stray rescue dog was heartworm negative in less than one year. There is no excuse, ZERO, for what happened to this dog.
You’re absolutely right! My husband and I rescue and foster we cats and kittens and have had over 30 IN OUR HOME at one time! And they’re cared for with Vet visits for spay and neuter, tests and shots. Then they’re GIVEN to good homes. We took over Lend-a-Paw abd I rolled money from my 403b into it to help pay others Vet bills. And I’m so OCD!! Sweep every morning, vacuum every night, scoop litter boxes 3X a day and wipe them out. Change eater every day and keep dry food “buffets” full. Lots of scratch towers and music in their rooms for bedtime.🤣I’m coming back as a cat! So people like them really upset me!😤

I hope this bitch and her husband get uncontrollable diarrhoea subsequently become emaciated and die a slow and painful death because the hospital bills will be too high for them to pay! They should have contacted a vet immediately and if the treatment was out of their financial means, the dog may have had the chance of a dignified death without all the suffering. Sensitively training and welfare checks should be a requirement for all pet owners, police officers and people who work or volunteer with animals. This goes on way too often and we usually never hear about it, or learn of it when the animal has either died or is in critical condition. Animals MUST have legal status and rights to equality as cursing and condemning the perpetrators is getting old and accomplishes little to nothing. i worked for the police for 25 years and had a few cats that were quite old (15 – 20). They vomited food and left thin stools. so I know what cleaning means.
