Protect Kids From Allegedly Intentional Lead Poisoning

Target: Paola Flores Jaramillo, Minister for Ecuador Ministry of Justice

Goal: Ensure charges are filed if lead poisoning cases are discovered to be intentional and malicious acts.

A popular children’s snack recently became the source of a major outbreak of suspected lead poisoning. Over 400 Americans, mostly very young kids, fell ill after consuming cinnamon applesauce in pouches made by brands such as WanaBana, Weis, and Schnucks. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported very high levels of lead in samples. An ongoing investigation hints that this story may have taken a sinister turn.

Investigators from Ecuador have apparently linked the tainted and recalled pouches to a cinnamon grinder named Carlos Aguilera. The FDA had recently theorized that the lead poisonings may have been intentional, and such acts are not without precedent. Financial gain is said to be the usual motive. American authorities, however, have no jurisdiction to pursue potential criminal charges. This action falls to officials in Ecuador.

Sign the petition below to call for decisive legal steps and accountability once the investigation is complete.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Flores Jaramillo,

The effects of lead poisoning, especially on young children, can be devastating: delayed development, learning and behavioral problems, hearing and speech impediments, and long-term damage to the brain and nervous system. Hundreds of applesauce consumers reportedly fell ill due to lead poisoning. An Ecuador investigation has centered on suspect Carlos Aguilera.

If this cinnamon grinder is found to have abused his professional responsibilities and intentionally sickened children, he must be held accountable. Please make sure he faces full legal repercussions if found guilty.

Sincerely,
