Stop Poachers From Wiping Out the 20 Remaining Red Wolves

Target: Roy Cooper, Governor of North Carolina

Goal: Safeguard the remaining 20 critically endangered red wolfs.

The red wolf (Canis rufus) once roamed freely throughout the southeastern United States, but today, it is teetering on the brink of extinction. With fewer than 20 red wolves left in the wild, the species faces a dire and imminent threat to its existence. North Carolina is home to the last remaining wild population of red wolves, making it absolutely crucial to their survival.

Historically, these remarkable creatures played a vital role in maintaining ecological balance in the region. However, habitat loss, illegal hunting, and interbreeding with coyotes have pushed them to the edge of oblivion. In 1987, North Carolina took a commendable step by implementing a program to reintroduce red wolves into their native habitat. This initiative, led by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, aimed to ensure the survival of this critically endangered species.

Recently, however, these efforts have faced significant setbacks. The red wolf population has plummeted, primarily due to inadequate protection, lax enforcement of anti-poaching measures, and a lack of commitment to their conservation.

Sign the petition below to demand immediate, unwavering support for the protection and recovery of North Carolina’s red wolf population.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Cooper,

The red wolf is not just a symbol of North Carolina’s natural heritage, but a living testament to the commitment to conservation. The species being one of the critically endangered ones, we have a moral obligation to protect and preserve the red wolf.

However, the red wolf’s population is perilously low, and time is running out. We urge you to take swift and decisive action to ensure the survival of this magnificent species. We call upon you to enforce stringent laws and penalties against those who harm or kill red wolves illegally. We must secure and expand the red wolf’s natural habitat, ensuring sufficient space for breeding and recovery.

You must provide funding and resources to organizations working tirelessly to protect and restore the red wolf population while promoting education and public awareness campaigns to engage communities in the importance of red wolf conservation.

The world is watching. We implore you to stand as a champion for the red wolf, ensuring that this iconic species does not vanish from the state’s landscape forever. The time for action is now.

Sincerely,

  1. Only 20 red wolves left. That is pathetic here in America. And it is our own people who are responsible. If we want to protect red wolves we can’t trust the ethics of the average, gun toting citizen. They are ignorant to the fact that our soil is degraded, nutrient less and falling into our water system by too many grazers. Ranchers fed lies to these people and the people believed them and also wanted more heads to hang on their walls. Now the red wolf faces extinction due to ignorance and selfishness. Grab the remaining wolves and put them in a territory with no guns allowed at least until their numbers grow. These people don’t care about obligation to save a species they only want blood today. All the money donated can’t save these 20 wolves if they are left to be saved by the ESA or the kind intelligence of our officials or public. Why? We are no longer that type of human being. Sadly.

It is so heartbreaking to hear that only 20 of these red wolves exist in the wild. North Carolina is one of the States in America known for its lax enforcement when it comes to animal welfare and protections. Not a very good reputation to have. North Carolina is running out of time to save the Red Wolves.

  3. It’s disgusting how so many people want to make the wolves extinct in the United States.

  4. How about Poaching The Poachers instead!!!!

Better to have extinct HUNTERS than extinct Animals!

  5. Kathryn Derrer says:

Why oh why can’t people just leave innocent animals alone to live their own lives! Americans REALLY love their guns – they make them feel macho – and therein lies the problem! ANY fool can kill an animal long distance with a gun! ALL guns ( except used for the services) should be banned in the U.S. It would then be a much safer place for animals and humans alike!

  6. Mary Hirose says:

Sec. Deb Haaland is a disgrace. We all cheered when Pres. Biden chose her, but she has done NOTHING to protect grizzlies, nor wolves, and our wild horses and burros continue to be slaughtered, continuing Trump’s horrific wildlife policies. Please write to your reps and tell them how you feel, along with posting comments here. Thank you.

  7. Urszula Lund says:

This is an EXTREME ENVIRONMENTAL CRIME!
SO MUCH BEAUTY and DIVERSITY IS GONE IN THIS WORLD BECAUSE OF IRRATIONAL, GREEDY, DEHUMANIZED, PATHOLOGICAL AND MENTALLY-DERANGED HUMANS! Humans are Satan’s offspring. There is no other way to explain their propensity for killing and violence against our precious fellow erthlings.

  8. Agree all comments kill the poachers.

  9. Maria Lavorato says:

    Agree with you g.

It is truly unfathomable that we have only 20 red wolves left. Once again man has put greed first with
habitat loss, illegal hunting, and interbreeding, etc etc..turning a blind eye seems to be the one perfected talent of man.

Roy Cooper ….please don’t let these sweet little red wolves disappear from the earth, once again, because of man’s inadequate protection, commitment to their well being and enforcement of anti-poaching and hunting laws. SAVE THE 20 THAT ARE LEFT PLEASE!!!!!

  10. Jacqueline Adams says:

Only 20 Red Wolves and they are poaching them for greed?? NO Conscience!!!

  11. Why the hell isn’t the state or federal government doing something?? Poachers need to be punished severely not just fined!

  12. Jaime Perez says:

Poachers are boils on the earth’s butt!! Poachers should be shot, no questions asked. Leave the animals alone and let them live.

  13. Wendy+Morrison says:

STOP ALL ANIMAL CRUELTY ACTS ALL OVER THE UNITED STAYES AND THE ENTIRE WORLD BY KILLING GOD’S RED WOLVES AND ALL OTHER ANIMALS TOO!!!! STOP ALL ANIMAL CRUELTY TOWARDS ALL RED WOLVES AND ALL OTHER GOD’S ANIMALS IMMEDIATELY!!!!

  14. Claudia Jayne Ferguson says:

First, nail the poachers! Second, and most important, catch the 20 still around and put them in a sanctuary to reproduce and be protected.

  15. Terri Manabe says:

I guess humans won’t learn any lessons by killing so many animals to the brink of extinction. The Red Wolves and all wild animals need to be protected, not only for our environment, but we need to STOP TAKING AWAY all their habitats. Humans are our worst enemy since greed over takes the greater good and need to restore and protect to save ourselves.

    • Yes it like the damn blm killing off all the wild horses what have they done to be shot down from the air cause BLM ARE ALL DAMN COWARDS cause the damn farmer don’t want to share the land with horses

  16. veronica romero says:

Make it illegal to kill another living creature

  17. Part of the problem is the idiots with guns can’t distinguish between a red wolf and coyote, neither of which should be killed. All animal lives matter.

  18. Lisa G Blanck says:

Hunt the hunters. Arm the Animals. This is not a ‘sport’ to them, while they lie dying on the floor of the forest with a bullet in their guts, bleeding out.

  19. Julia Edinger says:

I totally agree with Jaime Perez
Poachers are boils on the earth’s butt!! Poachers should be shot, no questions asked. Leave the animals alone and let them live.

  20. They don’t give a damn cause if they did they would have put a stop to all the killings of wildlife as we’ve seen
