Don’t Let Countless Species Die Off Due to Loss of Mangrove Forests and Marshlands

Target: John Bel Edwards, Governor of Louisiana

Goal: Conserve and restore Louisiana’s mangrove forests and marshlands.

The delicate balance of Louisiana’s unique mangrove forests and vital marshlands faces an unprecedented threat. The escalating impacts of climate change, combined with human activity, are eroding these critical ecosystems at an alarming rate. These natural barriers play a crucial role in mitigating coastal erosion, providing habitat for diverse wildlife, and safeguarding against storm surges.

Mangroves, known for their adaptability to saline environments, and marshlands, acting as vital nurseries and habitats, are vital components of Louisiana’s ecological tapestry. Yet, rapid land loss, exacerbated by rising sea levels, storms, and oil exploration, has left these ecosystems in a state of peril.

Sign the petition below to demand immediate action to protect and restore Louisiana’s mangrove forests and marshlands, securing a sustainable future for both the environment and communities.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Edwards,

The resilience of Louisiana’s ecosystems and the well-being of its residents depend on the preservation of the precious mangrove forests and marshlands. These irreplaceable natural buffers shield the communities from the wrath of storms, nurture the diverse wildlife, and define the cultural heritage.

The urgency of this matter is undeniable. As the effects of climate change intensify, the erosion of these vital ecosystems accelerates. It is imperative that immediate measures are taken to halt this degradation and initiate restoration efforts. By doing so, we not only protect the environment, but also ensure the long-term security and prosperity of the state.

Louisiana’s unique natural landscapes are more than just scenic wonders; they are the lifeblood of the region. We implore you to take bold and swift action, investing in the preservation and revitalization of the mangrove forests and marshlands. Let us stand as stewards of the land, safeguarding its beauty and bounty for generations to come.

Sincerely,

  1. To not preserve Marshes and Wet Lands is ignorant at this point in time. Climate Change is here and unless one has been living under a rock it is well known these Marshes and Wet Lands protect your state in many ways but seriously protect in time of storms. I feel if a state takes care of these important protections they should be allotted what they may need in time of hurricanes, etc. If states do nothing to protect these natural defense systems they ought “not “to receive any assistance from the government. The same is true for Big AG animals farmers who often do nothing to save the lives of their animals allowing them to drown and expecting the government to pay them to buy more animals. I say, NO!
