Combat Severe Weather With Green Infrastructure

Target: Mayor Michelle Wu, City of Boston

Goal: Implement and fund comprehensive green infrastructure projects to enhance urban resilience and combat climate change.

As Boston faces increasingly severe weather events and the undeniable impacts of climate change, the urgency to fortify the city’s resilience grows paramount. Green infrastructure presents a tangible solution, offering the potential to mitigate flooding, improve air quality, and safeguard the communities. However, the implementation of these crucial initiatives has been sluggish, and the time to act is now.

In recent years, Boston has experienced unprecedented storms, flooding, and temperature extremes. The urban landscape is vulnerable, and the need for a proactive approach cannot be overstated. Green infrastructure – encompassing initiatives like permeable pavements, green roofs, urban forests, and sustainable drainage systems – has the power to not only mitigate flooding, but also enhance the quality of life for the residents.

Sign the petition below to demand a commitment to prioritizing green infrastructure projects that will foster urban resilience, protect the communities, and combat climate change. Let’s ensure a sustainable and vibrant future for Boston.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor Wu,

The resiliency of Boston in the face of climate challenges is a cause that transcends politics and calls for immediate action. The escalating frequency and severity of climate-related events are an undeniable warning, and the potential of green infrastructure to bolster the city’s defenses cannot be ignored.

Bostonians deserve a future where they are shielded from the impacts of extreme weather, where the neighborhoods are not at the mercy of rising sea levels, and where clean air is a fundamental right. Green infrastructure offers a pathway to realizing these aspirations. It can provide a buffer against floods, purify the air people breathe, and offer spaces of respite in the heart of the urban environment.

It’s imperative that resources and political will are allocated toward these transformative projects. By prioritizing green infrastructure, we invest in the future and that of generations to come.

Sincerely,

  1. We can’t allow ourselves to keep doing things as have been done in the past. Climate change is here and we need to face that fact and do something about it.
Doing things the way they have always been done doesn’t work any longer. Why? It will produce the same effects which today spells, nothing. Green Infrastructure is a valid and reasonable way forward. Invest in the future with this forward thinking idea and application. Our grandchildren will thank you!
