Stop Polluting Water With Coal Mining Expansion

Target: Chris Dorrington, Director of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality

Goal: Halt the expansion of coal mining operations to save Montana’s water quality and ecosystems.

Montana’s pristine waterways and invaluable ecosystems are under an imminent threat due to the proposed expansion of coal mining operations. This expansion jeopardizes the very essence of the environment, potentially leading to irreversible damage that affects communities, wildlife, and future generations.

Coal mining, a historically significant industry, now stands at a crossroads. The expansion plans, driven by profit motives, fail to adequately address the dire consequences they pose. The increased coal extraction could lead to toxic pollutants leaching into the rivers and streams, endangering the aquatic habitats and threatening the health of drinking water sources.

Montana’s unique ecology is a treasure that must be safeguarded. The expansion’s potential repercussions include disrupted wildlife migration patterns, degraded water quality, and the loss of vital natural habitats that countless species depend upon for survival.

Sign the petition below to demand immediate action to prevent the expansion of coal mining operations that imperil Montana’s water quality and ecosystems.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Dorrington,

The future of Montana’s water and environment hangs in the balance as the specter of coal mining expansion looms. Our waterways, intrinsic to our way of life and irreplaceable ecosystems, are at risk of irreversible contamination.

The proposed expansion fails to address the urgent concerns regarding water quality and ecosystem health. Negligence in this matter threatens not only the aquatic habitats, but also the well-being of communities relying on these resources for sustenance and recreation.

Montana’s natural heritage deserves preservation, not exploitation. The potential damage from this expansion reaches far beyond economic gain. It endangers the vitality of our environment, putting both current and future generations at risk.

We urge you to reject the expansion plans and prioritize the protection of Montana’s water quality and ecosystems. Let us ensure that the state’s natural beauty remains intact for all to cherish and enjoy.

Sincerely,

  1. Preserve don’t exploit. Coal mines took the beauty from West Virginia. They flattened mountain tops and caused the death of many families in their wake. Now it’s Montana. Coal mines are lethal. They destroy, leaving destruction behind. Coal mines should be fined or shut down. Our governments will allow them to flourish and then greenwash the lies that the government is protecting us and our wildlife and water ways, rivers, streams, etc. Apparently the government is doing little to stop the Coal Industry.
