Ban Harmful Pesticides to Keep Water Free From Toxic Contamination

Target: Mr. Doug Goehring, Commissioner of Agriculture for North Dakota

Goal: Enact and enforce regulations to mitigate the negative impact of agricultural practices on water quality in North Dakota.

The waters of North Dakota, once pristine and life-sustaining, are facing an alarming decline in quality due to harmful agricultural practices. The extensive use of fertilizers, pesticides, and other agrochemicals has led to the contamination of the water bodies, jeopardizing not only aquatic ecosystems, but also the health and well-being of the communities.

Excessive nutrient runoff, stemming from improper application of fertilizers and poor soil management, is causing harmful algal blooms and oxygen depletion in waterways. Pesticide residues are finding their way into drinking water sources, posing health risks to both humans and wildlife. The scale of this environmental crisis demands immediate attention and comprehensive solutions to safeguard the water resources for current and future generations.

Sign the petition below to demand urgent action to address the detrimental impact of agricultural practices on North Dakota’s water quality.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Commissioner Goehring,

North Dakota’s waters are the lifeblood of the state, sustaining ecosystems and communities alike. It is with grave concern that we write to you regarding the deteriorating water quality attributed to harmful agricultural practices.

The overuse and misuse of agrochemicals are turning the once-clear waters into toxic reservoirs. Algal blooms are suffocating aquatic life, and the presence of pesticide residues in the drinking water is an impending health crisis. As Commissioner of Agriculture, it is within your power to make a resounding difference.

We urge you to swiftly enact and enforce regulations that curtail the reckless application of fertilizers and pesticides. Collaborate with farmers to promote sustainable practices that protect water quality while ensuring productive agriculture. Your leadership in this endeavor will leave a lasting legacy of responsible stewardship.

Let us not wait for irreversible damage to be done. Embrace this opportunity to safeguard North Dakota’s water resources, and in doing so, secure a healthier and more prosperous future for the state.

Sincerely,
