Promote Automotive Recycling to Stop Toxic Pollution of Landfills

Target: Michael S. Regan, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Goal: Stop auto parts from entering landfills and harming the environment by recycling these materials.

Regardless of the EPA’s attempts at banning auto parts in landfills, many are still brought to them. The process of creating auto parts is already environmentally damaging enough. Many greenhouse gases enter the atmosphere through the production of car parts. Instead of throwing working car parts away, bringing them to an automotive shop to be sold as a used part is much more beneficial to the environment. There are also car part recycling facilities that can shred up old car parts and make them into new products. Both ideas serve as better options than dumping them in landfills.

While some car parts don’t directly harm the environment by being in a landfill, any fluids on them may do so. Engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and nearly all other fluids involved in vehicles can cause damage to the environment and wildlife. These fluids can contaminate soil and water, especially if they contain heavy metal and hazardous chemicals. With the sheer amount of pollution around the world, any small act can help the environment flourish. Although the recycling of car parts seems like a small act, its impact can be far-reaching.

When car parts are recycled, they can be sold and utilized for a better price than unused parts. They can even be made into new, handy products and/or parts. The environment is faltering, but this act of sustainability can serve as a model of what needs to be done to save Earth. Sign this petition to advocate for the recycling of automotive parts.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Administrator Regan,

Car parts often end up in landfills despite the actions taken to prevent this. In order to fully prevent the destruction caused by automotive parts, they should be recycled. This is a more sustainable solution and prevents harmful fluids from entering soil and water. Our oceans are already polluted enough; we don’t need anything else contributing to this crisis. The recycling of car parts also allows for new products to be created and reused. Automotive parts contain valuable materials that should be utilized as long as they can be.

We need to save Earth, and if this small act can better the environment, it needs to be greatly considered. We urge you to take the proper actions needed to advocate for the use of metal recycling facilities that take in car parts. Thank you for your attention to this message.

Sincerely,

  1. This makes sense. Why has it taken this long to try this? Anything and everything we can doo to help our landfills and reuse is a good and decent thing to do.
