Target: Linda Rendle, CEO of The Clorox Company
Goal: Promote the use and production of compostable trash bags in order to minimize plastic pollution.
Many trash bags are made with a chemical called low-density polyethylene (LDPE) that emits fossil-fuels and microplastics into the environment. Marine life has been dying off because of excessive plastic production, and microplastics are becoming present within our food supply. Without the proper care, oceans, landfills and waterways will become more and more polluted, directly harming the environment and Earth’s atmosphere. Trash bag companies must revert to producing compostable trash bags to halt plastic pollution and give the environment added nutrients.
Compostable trash bags are more environmentally beneficial than the average trash bag. They contain plant-based starches and other non-toxic substances. They must be recycled in order for them to decompose properly, or they can be placed in a household compost system to generate nutrient-filled compost. They reap no harm to the environment and can provide users with an environmentally-friendly bag that acts the same as plastic ones. The production of these bags reduce water pollution and carbon emissions, as well as provide minerals to plant life.
Glad® has produced some compostable products, but with the environment quickly dwindling, they need to produce and promote more. These bags are a small step in incorporating environmental sustainability into large corporations. Sign the petition below to promote the use and production of more compostable trash bags to reduce rapidly-increasing plastic pollution.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear CEO Rendle,
Plastic pollution has continued increasing, and it doesn’t appear it’ll decrease anytime soon. Plastic trash bags make a large impact on plastic pollution based on their common day-to-day use. The best way to go about decreasing this pollution is to promote the use of compostable trash bags.
Compostable trash bags are an environmentally-friendly alternative to the common plastic trash bag. They’re made of natural products, and they can decompose without any harm to the environment. They can even be used to create natural compost, benefiting the environment rather than harming it. Since these bags have the same uses as plastic trash bags, it’s a necessity for them to be a commonality in households.
With your influence over Glad®, I urge you to push the production of more compostable trash bags. Glad® has released a few compostable products, but this is not enough. The use of plastic trash bags needs to be drastically minimized, and the first way to begin this process is through trash bag companies themselves. Please encourage the creation and use of compostable trash bags for the environment’s sake. I appreciate your attention to this message.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
