Target: Michael Regan, Administrator of Environmental Protection Agency
Goal: Support tougher restrictions on tailpipe emissions and resulting boon for electric vehicle production.
Certain lawmakers at the state and federal level are taking aim at everything from charging stations to tax credits in their war on electric vehicles (EVs). But as one side of the political aisle tries to gut clean energy investments that could greatly benefit the environment, auto manufacturers themselves are taking the initiative by pledging to make a majority of their fleets electric in the coming years. This ForceChange petition and its signees called on America’s leaders to make similar commitments. And now they have taken a major step forward.
A new proposal by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would set rigorous limits on tailpipe emissions from newly manufactured vehicles. These limits would meet and exceed similar guidelines set by European countries and would in fact assert the United States as a world leader in this arena. With these new guidelines, EVs with zero emissions could make up as much as two-thirds of new vehicle sales within a decade. Not only would this proposal have the direct benefit of lessening pollutants that fuel global warming, but it would also lessen the demand for oil and the drilling that does such damage to cherished lands and waters.
Sign the petition below to support an initiative that could help put America and Earth itself on the road to a clean energy future.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Administrator Regan,
“This is a future for everyone.” You spoke these words about the tailpipe emissions proposal that is expected to boost EV production and sales. Thank you for recognizing that this action is indeed about the long-term future of the United States and of the entire planet. Clean energy is no longer a luxury but a necessity for the environment’s and for humanity’s health.
This bold ambition is indeed the most fitting way to honor Earth Day.
Sincerely,
