Success: Potentially Innocent Man Granted Stay of Execution

Target: Kevin Stitt, Governor of Oklahoma

Goal: Support decision to grant death row inmate stay of execution.

Oklahoma death row inmate Richard Glossip has endured a long and controversial journey. Since being convicted of orchestrating his boss’s murder in 1998, Glossip has gone through two trials, one overturned conviction, three stays of execution, an hours-away delayed execution date that resulted in a state death penalty moratorium for several years, and increasing calls for a reevalution of the conviction (even echoed by state lawmakers) following new evidence revelations. The case was highlighted in this ForceChange petition compelling another stay of execution. Governor Kevin Stitt has listened.

The governor recently granted Glossip a stay of execution until February. This reprieve will give his advocates time to address serious concerns about the evidence used to convict this man. Glossip also may have the opportunity for his case to be heard by a clemency board.

Sign the petition below to thank Governor Stitt for giving a possibly innocent man a vital lifeline.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Stitt,

“We are extremely grateful for Governor Stitt’s thoughtful and compassionate decision to grant a … reprieve for Rich’s execution date.” Richard Glossip’s attorneys offered these words of appreciation for your decision to provide their client a stay of execution. If this man is eventually proven innocent, you will have helped prevent a grave miscarriage of justice and saved a life.

Thank you for upholding truth and justice.

Sincerely,
