Stop Confining Pigs in Tiny Metal Torture Cages

Target: Bryan Humphreys, Chief Executive Officer of the National Pork Producers Council

Goal: Stop contesting a law that prohibits pigs from being kept in small, metal gestation crates.

Gestation crates are small, metal enclosures that are often used on pork farms throughout the U.S. and other nations. Typically, these cages are used to restrain pregnant or nursing female pigs who, viewed as breeding vessels, are typically kept in these crates all their lives. Gestation crates are so small that these poor mother pigs can’t even turn around, and many times, they develop arthritis or other health complications due to an inability to stretch their legs.

California’s Proposition 12 is a law that bans the sale of meat and eggs from animals raised using extreme methods of confinement, thereby banning battery cages and gestation crates. However, the pork industry has been fighting this legislation since its introduction in 2018 and, in March, the Supreme Court agreed to hear its case. If decided that this law is unconstitutional, it will subject hundreds of thousands of pigs to unnecessary, prolonged suffering.

Sign this petition to demand the National Pork Producers Council stop fighting Proposition 12 and prioritize compassion for other living beings over the greed of large corporations.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Humphreys,

California’s Proposition 12 has been one of few crucial protections for animals abused on factory farms. Its ban on extreme methods of confinement–including battery cages and gestation crates–has saved chickens and pigs from cruel fates, stuck in cages barely large enough to stand. This law, however, has come under scrutiny from members of the pork industry who want to strip these farm animals of even their most fundamental rights.

We are asking you to stop fighting California’s Proposition. The pork industry does enough damage to these fragile beings and there is no need to further their suffering.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

While people continue to eat pork, there will always be intensive farm factories. I have given up pork for that very reason. If more people were given the inside view of a factory farm, then shown how these intelligent creatures are killed, I’m sure more people would think twice, or at least buy their pork from free range farms.

    • Why just pork? Do you think beef and milk cows are treated any better. What about laying hens? Confined to cages 3 or 4 in a cage not big enough for one hen. What about chickens bred to be huge by the time they are a few weeks old? All factory farming of any animal needs to end.

  6. Shirley Lemieux says:

The images of pigs cramped in metal cages says it all. This is pure torture! Animal cruelty! Inhumane treatment of animals! This is not ok. It is mind boggling that all these decades later, we are still petitioning to those in positions of power or authority to end animal confinement practices. These acts of animal cruelty cause immense suffering to so many animals. Get off your high horses and put aside your narcissism and recognize that there are lives around you needing your help. Stop being persuaded by means of bribery, also referred to as “special interest” groups or individuals. Why is it so difficult to accomplish issues in this Country that should be common sense?

  7. Nena Miller says:

I can not believe that these torture chambers are still being used. Disgusting hunans

  8. Julia Taylor says:

Evil fucked in the head bastards. Die. Soon.

  9. Deanna Burger says:

I’ve read the comments of signers. I agree with them FACTORY FARMS need to be abolished. All you people in our government also need to be abolished. None of you do what a human with a heart would do when you see such horrible practices going on in our country. It is your job to stop suffering. Just do your dam job that is all we ask. Factory Farms should be accountable they are like Hitler on a different scale. Why can’t they give the animals a chance at a pain free life before they are killed for people to eat. These farms are horror.

  10. NICOLE DAVIS says:

What the heck is wrong with you?? STOP such CRUELTY. It’s evil and wicked and YOU KNOW IT!!
SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on ALL of you.
There is NPO REASON at all to make these animals suffer like this and YOU KNOW IT.
Turning away from it is just as bad as doing it.
WHAT ARE YOU, SO CALLED HUMANS??
STOP THIS….ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, DO SOMETHING GOOD AND KIND FOR A CHANGE.

  11. This horrible corporate-loving Supreme Court will probably overturn this law and subject these poor creatures to a life of hell. They have no concerns for factory famed animals, or any other animals for that matter.

  12. Cynthia A Pisarcik says:

Is it NOT enough these innocent animals give their life ????????

They DESERVE to live their short life in more comfortable ways.

Someone please put a STOP to this cruelty!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Julia Edinger says:

I TOTALLY THINK THOSE EVIL BEINGS WHO MAKE INNOCENT FARM ANIMALS SUFFER HORRIBLY ???!!! THEY SHOULD SEVERELY SUFFER THE “VERY SAME TREATMENT” !!! ALL CRUEL BEINGS …..

  14. Lea Derence says:

Animal agriculture is the most brutal and most environmentally destructive industry that has ever existed. We are in the middle of a pandemic because of people eating animals. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, species extinction, water depletion, water pollution, ocean dead zones, ocean plastics, fisheries depletion, pandemics, world hunger, and climate change. STOP SUBSIDISING THIS VILE INDUSTRY. Meat, dairy, and eggs are the most acidic and most inflammatory foods and are loaded with artery-clogging fats and cholesterol. Consuming the flesh and secretions of animals increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, kidney disease, Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis and starting another pandemic like bird flu or swine flu. Furthermore, if the same exact things being done to animals to produce animal products were done to humans they would IN FACT BE CRIMES OF RAPE, KIDNAPPING, THEFT, AND MURDER.

  15. Bryan – The Animal Kingdom has just as much a right as we do to live their lives in peace on this planet, free from torture and murder at the hands of humans! Try exercising some compassion for these animals instead of lining your pockets with donations and bribes from the meat industry! People like you make me sick!!!

  16. Jennifer L FINIZIO says:

Torturing animals for food is unnecessary. Period.

  17. HORRIFIC — My heart breaks for PIGS — GO VEGAN — BAN gestation crates — GO VEGAN — WHO contemplates their brutal suffering & death — as if they were a crate of t-shirts — obscene & unconscionable — SHAME on Producers & Consumers — GO VEGAN — everyone benefits when we GO VEGAN
