Stop Overcrowded Shelters From Killing Adoptable Dogs and Cats

Target: Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States

Goal: Demand increased funding for local animal shelters in the wake of overcrowding.

Animal shelters across the United States are in trouble. In the midst of illegal or irresponsible breeding, the eviction crisis, and rising rates of inflation, dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are being brought into shelters at alarmingly rapid paces. These shelters are extremely overwhelmed and understaffed, with more animals coming in than they have the resources to care for.

As a result, shelters are having to make difficult decisions. Animals are being turned down, forcing owners to choose either to continue to try and care for the pet themselves or abandon it somewhere outside. Many shelters that have long operated on no-kill policies have been forced to move towards euthanasia, as they simply do not have the means by which to support such high quantities of animals. As a lot of the surrendered dogs and cats were family pets, they are highly adoptable and would make great additions to any home if only given adequate time to find one.

These shelters need our help, and fast. Sign this petition to demand increased funding for animal shelters across the U.S. and to help them in their amazing efforts to save the nation’s dogs and cats.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Biden,

Animal shelters throughout the U.S. are in the midst of a crisis. Economic hardships brought about by the pandemic, irresponsible pet ownership, illegal breeding, and the rising costs of living have all contributed to the mass influx of pets surrendered to local shelters. Most of the shelters do not have the resources to care for all these dogs and cats on their own–they are significantly understaffed, overworked, and running out of money. Many shelters that had run on no-kill policies have had to turn towards euthanasia, as they simply cannot afford to care for all of the animals in their possession.

We are asking you, Mr. Biden, to help save dogs and cats during these trying times and increase funding to local animal shelters. These animals deserve a loving home.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  2. Gemma Roelofs says:

here in europe we do not do such things, animals can wait for much longer for adoptions, without the risk to be killed before adopted…. much longer….sometimes until the die of age…. luckely. I hope that we may be longer so and not are at risk to get in the same disgusting situation…

  3. Yea but Joe Biden won’t fo shit to help and he says he’s an animal lover if do then prove MR JOE BIDEN

  4. UncommonSensesc says:

We can fund every other country in this bleeping world, we can fund everything and anything for bleeding heart liberals, but innocent animals in this country don’t mean squat to the politicians!

  5. Janice M Washienko says:

It is so sad that a percectly healthy animal is put down because there simy is not enough room or funding to accomodate!!! This issue is partly due to the ignorance of some individuals that either refuse to spay/neuter or are not educated on this fact. Some simply rescue or find animals & cannot keep them for various reasons. Then there are those people whom just don’t give a damn!!! Many donate hard earn money but with the added help from the government or individual state funds, NO HEALTHY ANIMAL SHOULD BE KILLED!!!

  6. Manitou Calmstorm says:

Sign this petition till ALL shelters are properly funded and therefore no-kill. Do not kill these beautiful animals.

c’mon, Joe! you have countless billions at your disposal. Make a few of them available to the nonhumans. Also, Canada must do the same.

  7. Maria Lavorato says:

    Yes agree with Mary Young!

Joe Biden prove you love animals and give the funding that is required.

Put in place legal limitations for all breeders that are enforced! Enforce laws for illegal breeders!

  8. Julia Edinger says:

    CLOSE THIS EVIL SHIT DOWN!!!

  9. Connie Klein says:

Please Mr. President help these shelter animals survive from being murdered.

  10. No shelter, overcrowded or not, should euthanise animals. No animal is totally unadoptable if they are shown love, care and patience. We need to remember that they didn’t put themselves in the shelter, we humans did, so show some compassion I understand that Joe Biden is reported to be an animal lover, then now is the time to step up to the plate and show it

  11. Blame people not politicians for fuelling demand for animals. We do not do this in civilised countries. Americans stop breeding animals in back yards and press for spay/ neuter programmes. These animals will die because of Ill informed backwards people. Get your act together. Instead of demanding the killing is stopped, remember that previous owners put a death sentence on their heads the day the animal was born. Wake up, this is not something to be proud of!!

THERE IS A COUNTRY WHERE IT IS LAW TO SPAY AND NUTER YOUR ANIMALS AND YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO HAVE NO MORE THAN 4 PER HOUSE HOLD THEY HAVE THIER SHIT TOGETHER!!!

  12. Sandra Weber says:

Our government officials are a huge disappointment. I’ve been trying for 2 years to get our beautiful American horses to not be sent to slaughter houses and no one pays attention. It’s very disappointing and heartbreaking that animals are killed because of lack of funding.

  13. Jeffrey Mausner says:

The overcrowded animal shelters need additional funding, or these animals will be killed.

  14. Shirley Lemieux says:

We need increased funding for animal shelters across the United States. It is heartbreaking to see what is going on around the Country with the pet surrenders that are overwhelming shelters. Animals deserve a chance to live and should not be put to death because of lack of funds.

  15. Myrna Lipman says:

What kind of society are we to let this happen? First off, why are ANY pet breeding operations allowed to continue? As long as these are allowed to continue to churn animals out, the shelters will remain overfilled and then choose to euthanize perfectly healthy and adoptable animals for lack of space. It’s time the “professional” breeders as well as the small, at-home breeders be forced to cease operations and instead find a real job rather then making a living by using and abusing animals. A dog is a dog and a cat is a cat. We don’t need more pure breeds, etc. to enhance our world. We just need love and caring for the animals that are here now.

In the meantime, fund the shelters and provide support for people that are giving up their pets purely due to financial hardship.

Stop shelters from killing healthy, strong and life-loving animals! Lack of funds is NOT an acceptable explanation!!! We live in a DEHUMANIZED world and animals shall not be victims of irresponsible human scumbags!
Please increase funding to local animal shelters. These animals deserve a loving home, not death!

  17. Frances Leard says:

First we need to stop the greedy breeders who continue to use our innocent animals to fill their pockets with money hungry idiots who don’t care about what they are doing to the dogs.

We need laws to stop this inhumane treatment of overbreeding animals. Too many dogs are discarded and thrown by the wayside for no reason. This has to stop.

  18. If you don’t do it to people why are you killing defenseless innocent animals? They are living beings and the suffer and feel more than most humans beings

  19. I recommend funding shelters and not the jail/prison systems. These poor animals are in shelters thru no fault of their own. But humans who know better between right and wrong can have a clean bed, warm environment and three meals. What’s wrong with this picture?

  20. Agree all comments the cunt dont give a shit just like some animal cruelty people they need to be put down not animals. STOP NOW. Kill the cruely people if there was strict laws owning breeding selling animals would not be so many animals in shelters or killed and dumped. Need to have a permit and a property check microchip desexed animals prior to buyers allowed to take. Breeding should be limited as well and proper checks. The laws need to change in the world to much of cruelty no excuse and not accepted dont want to care for a animals dont fucking get one you fucking idoits. People who are cruel to an animal should be treated the same way back then execute them. Dont need them in this world that encludes worldwide. Lwas not doing enough
