Stop Overcrowded Shelters From Killing Adoptable Dogs and Cats

Target: Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States

Goal: Demand increased funding for local animal shelters in the wake of overcrowding.

Animal shelters across the United States are in trouble. In the midst of illegal or irresponsible breeding, the eviction crisis, and rising rates of inflation, dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens are being brought into shelters at alarmingly rapid paces. These shelters are extremely overwhelmed and understaffed, with more animals coming in than they have the resources to care for.

As a result, shelters are having to make difficult decisions. Animals are being turned down, forcing owners to choose either to continue to try and care for the pet themselves or abandon it somewhere outside. Many shelters that have long operated on no-kill policies have been forced to move towards euthanasia, as they simply do not have the means by which to support such high quantities of animals. As a lot of the surrendered dogs and cats were family pets, they are highly adoptable and would make great additions to any home if only given adequate time to find one.

These shelters need our help, and fast. Sign this petition to demand increased funding for animal shelters across the U.S. and to help them in their amazing efforts to save the nation’s dogs and cats.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Biden,

Animal shelters throughout the U.S. are in the midst of a crisis. Economic hardships brought about by the pandemic, irresponsible pet ownership, illegal breeding, and the rising costs of living have all contributed to the mass influx of pets surrendered to local shelters. Most of the shelters do not have the resources to care for all these dogs and cats on their own–they are significantly understaffed, overworked, and running out of money. Many shelters that had run on no-kill policies have had to turn towards euthanasia, as they simply cannot afford to care for all of the animals in their possession.

We are asking you, Mr. Biden, to help save dogs and cats during these trying times and increase funding to local animal shelters. These animals deserve a loving home.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

ALL ANIMAL SHELTERS ALL OVER THE WORLD NEED TO BE ALL NO KILL SHELTERS!!!! ALL ANIMALS SHELTER NEED TO BE SPACIOUS AND BIG ENOUGH TO ALLOW ALL ANIMALS TO LIVE UNTIL THEY ARE ALL ADOPTED!!! BUILD AS MANY NO KILL SHELTERS EVERYWHERE NO matter how many for all HOMELESS ANIMALS THERE ARE!!!!!!

I can’t possibly agree more. There is NO need to euthanize animals, period.

The only exception is if they are too sick to save. If they are wild, turn them loose, they’ll be fine.

Pets do need adiquit time to be discovered by the perfect family to take those babies.

  2. Not only do they need to stop the killing, and shelters do need more help, but they need to do something to increase people spaying and neutering their pets!! Vets have drastically increased their fees, and while there are many programs that do this cheaper people still refuse to do it. It needs to be made a law to spay and neuter your pet because there are way too many irresponsible owners in this country. Spaying and neutering is both good for medical reasons and to reduce the number of pets at the shelters. They need to also have more housing for pet owners who rent or are homeless or victims of abuse.

      Well said!!

You are so right. People who let their cats roam at night are just BEGGING for kitten litters who will become strays and cause more problems with over population.

I personally don’t think there is any such thing as too many cats, but others don’t agree. SPAY AND NEUTER, PLEASE.

  3. The shelters also need to not be allowed to ‘finagle’ their numbers, like by not helping sick or dying animals then say it is a ‘mercy kill’. They NEED to be allowed to treat easy ailments like upper respiratory infections and other sicknesses instead of just letting them all die and not counting that towards their kill numbers.

What the hell do we have these disgusting `kill` places for? Are you all mad, this is SO VERY WRONG, CRUEL AND EVIL.
    STOP THIS NOW!!
    SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON YOU.

  7. Patricia Wicker says:

Shame ON YOU!!! Transfer these pets to other shelters! Kill Shelters should all go. What is wrong with you people????
STOP KILLING THESE ANIMALS!!!!! SHAME ON YOU!

  8. Michelle Stewart says:

Transfer animals between various shelters to be able to get adopted. Stop killing animals because there’s no room at a particular shelter. Even transfer animals to Canada to have a better chance for adoption.

  9. President Biden – It is morally wrong to put animals down for the crime of being ‘surplus’! Please protect these unfortunate animals who find themselves homeless! Please!

I believe pet owners in financial crisis that want to keep their pets should get help by government ( pet food and veterinary care ) people who dump carelessly their pets if caught should pay hefty fine ( that should help out to pay for the food and veterinary care for their pets ) and it should be mandatory that dogs and cats have to be neutered. I also think that all those animals breeders should be closely monitored to stop too many new pets coming into society.
Pets lover will accept a pets from shelter and will not look for an exotic looking dog or cat that they damp after novelty wears up.
